BF.net Fan Community Top 25 Prospects - 2019 Pre-Season Edition - Voting closed.

Brewer Fanatic Contributor

Ladies and Gentlemen, we would like to invite everyone to take part in the 2019 Pre-Season BF.net Fan Community Top 25 Prospects voting.

Voting is now open. Please take time and submit on this thread your top 25 Brewer prospects. Feel free to list any resources or news that you feel might help people with their voting.

Voting concludes on Wednesday, April 3. You can change your votes at anytime through that date. this should allow everyone to get a good understanding of the Brewer rosters, and any late camp moves the club may make.

RULES

1. Submit your Top 25 prospects, in order, by end of day on November 28. Put the player's full name to avoid any confusion. I appreciate it you would number them. Also, please list your players from #1 to #25.

2. You MUST submit 25 prospects. If there are only 10 or 15 or whatever, your list will not be included.

3. You are encouraged to go beyond pick #25 - adding a few more is great, especially as rosters can change in the next couple of weeks. This way if a guy you vote for is released or traded, we can just bump up your next player.

4. Rankings are determined by total points. The top prospect gets 25 points, second prospect gets 24 points, etc.

4. As noted above, if you submit your list and want to change something, just add the change to the thread. I'll accept changes up to the deadline.

5. Within a week or so after the deadline, we'll publish the new BF.net Community Top 25.

Eligibility guidelines:

Rookie eligibility is determined by the same standards as MLB:

“A player shall be considered a rookie unless, during a previous season or seasons, he has (a) exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues; or (b) accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club or clubs during the period of 25-player limit (excluding time in the military service and time on the disabled list).”

- Eligible players with ML experience: Adrian Houser, Aaron Wilkerson, Nate Orf, Jacob Nottingham

Players no longer in organization

P Jorge Ortego - Released

There may be some late moves in camp, and we will adjust this list accordingly.

New players in organization to consider

P Bobby Wahl - Obtained in Keon Broxton trade - Will likely miss season with torn ACL

P Adam Hill - Obtained in Keon Broxton trade

IF C.J. Hinojosa - Obtained in Eric Kratz trade

Prospect Rankings:

1. LHP Cameron Roegner (1 in post-season poll) - Dominated, and looks to be a late-round find on the order of Brent Suter

2. LHP Aaron Ashby (2) - 1 HR in 37 IP, and an 11.33 K/9 ratio in Wisconsin.

3. OF Troy Stokes (3) - proved 2017 was no fluke, and had a good spring with the Crew.

4. 2B Keston Hiura (4) - Imminent arrival in MLB makes for some interesting options.

5. OF Corey Ray (5) - Full season proved he is legit, and he had some blasts. Christian and Lorenzo who?

6. RHP Zach Brown (6) - Very solid numbers in Biloxi.

7. OF Tyrone Taylor (9) - Third of three good, young outfielders in AAA.

8. UT Weston Wilson (10) - An eventual replacement for Hernan Perez. Performed well in Spring Training.

9. RHP Trey Supak (11) - A clone of Brown.

10. 3B Lucas Erceg (7) - A few homers, but needs to break out.

11. IF Eddie Silva (11) - Delivered a high-average bat at Wisconsin and Helena.

12. C David Fry (12) - Huge power bat. Not as close to the majors as Hummel, but this bat is special.

13. LHP Scott Sunitsch (13) - A 1.71 ERA in Wisconsin can't be ignored.

14. LHP Clayton Andrews (14) - Has Hader 2.0 written all over him, but could he stretch into a starter?

15. C Cooper Hummel (15) - Showed some versatility in the OF. Good OBP skills, good bat. Best catcher in the system.

16. OF Tristan Lutz (16) - A .742 OPS is not bad, but he was so much better in 2017.

17. C/1B Jesus Chirinos (17) - Looks like a big bat and advanced OBP skills at 16.

18. OF/1B Ryan Aguilar (18) - All of a sudden, he seems to be emerging as a Thames-ish bench option. OBP skills, some pop, and speed.

19. RHP Jon Olczak (19) - Spring training appearances add to likelihood Crew has a right-handed Hader.

20. UT Jake Hager (20) - Faces competition from comeback candidate Lawrie and new acquisition Hinojosa.

21. SS Brice Turang (21) - Intriguing OBP skills and speed. Held his own in Spring Training.

22. 2B Victor Vargas (22) - A good hit tool, OBP skills (17 BB to 96 AB), and speed. May move Hiura elsewhere - on the diamond.

23. RHP Henry Medina (24) - Eye-popping numbers in the DSL. Looks like a command/control artist.

24. OF Trent Grisham (25) - Is he finally putting it together?

25. IF Dallas Carroll (26) - Good OBP skills are nice, but the average is not cutting it.

26. OF Joe Gray (28) - Love the OBP and power, hated the sub-Uecker average in 2018.

27. C Jacob Nottingham (28) - Primary guy in San Antonio

28. RHP Jorge Ortega (23) - Came back from injury, got hit hard, but the control is still there...

29. OF Micah Bello (30) - Decent OBP and speed, but not much average.

30. C Payton Henry (31) - Good OBP, some pop. But is he eclipsed by other catchers?

31. RHP Nate Griep (32) - Could be a closer.

32. RHP Cody Ponce (33) - Just not up to past seasons.

33. LHP Cody Beckman (34) - Solid, but Andrews is eclipsing him.

34. C Alex Hall (35) - Aussie pickup could be intriguing.

35. UT Jess Williams (36) - Decent average, speed, and versatile. Australia's answer to Hernan Perez?

Brewer Fanatic Contributor

This is a really nice, deep system. I pushed it out to 40, and there are still a bunch of guys who are very intriguing.

1 Keston Hiura, 2B - Will he see MLB this year? Might have to the bat to help down the stretch run.

2 Corey Ray, OF - Another guy who could see MLB time this year, or could be used as a solid trade chip.

3 Tristen Lutz, OF - I think he's the future of the MLB outfield. Him making the majors would coincide nicely with the end of Cain's run.

4 Tyrone Taylor OF - I think he's the first OF called up should the need arise. Solid bat and defense at all 3 OF positions. Good pop too.

5 Aaron Ashby, LHP - This system has a huge need for impact lefties, and Ashby is the best of the small bunch.

6 Zach Brown, RHP - He's going to see MLB time this year at some point I think.

7 Drew Rasmussen, RHP - Under the radar guy could be a quick mover. Great value pick last year, as he's got 1st round talent.

8 Adam Hill, RHP - Trade acquisition (Broxton) is going to make up for the pain of losing Wahl for the year.

9 Jacob Nottingham, C - Big year for him. If he can't solidify himself as the C of the future, it's back to the FA drawing board at that position in 2020.

10 Trey Supak, RHP - Needs to be consistent after a break-out year. Hopefully he sees AAA quick, and it one call away from an MLB job.

11 Joe Gray, OF - Young, super-toolsy OF needs to establish himself as a high-end prospect.

12 Je’Von Ward, OF - Ditto to Gray. Ward has a ton of Monte Harrison potential in him.

13 Brice Turang, SS - Defense is there, but can he hit enough to be a high-end prospect?

14 Noah Zavalos, RHP - Trade acquisition (Santana) profiles as a fun pitcher to follow.

15 Mauricio Dubon, SS - One Moose/Arcia injury from a lot of MLB work.

16 Lucas Erceg, 3B - Huge year at AAA for him. Can he fix the bat?

17 Braden Webb, RHP - Needs to capitalize on great second half of last year.

18 Adrian Houser RHP - Downgraded a bit because of age, but he's got a flamethrower that profiles in the pen well. Looks like he's going to be a starter at San Antonio. Probably first pitcher to be brought up when needed.

19 Bubba Derby, RHP - Big year for Bubba. Time to prove Stearns won the Khris Davis deal.

20 Jake Gatewood, 1B - Hopefully he can make it back from that horrible knee injury and make an impact this year.

21 Troy Stokes Jr., OF - Nice power, but the size and crappy average are scary.

22 Micah Bello, OF - This system is filled with talented OF prospects. Hopefully Bello establishes himself better this year.

23 Trent Grisham, OF - How the mighty have fallen. Grisham needs to improve, or he might be out of the org soon.

24 Jon Olczak, RHP - Solid relief candidate. Fun guy to root for.

25 Cody Ponce, RHP - Underachiever so far, but has the stuff to put it together.

26 Caden Lemons, RHP - Gotta let these young guys fly sometime. Gotta pull the training wheels off.

27 Peyton Henry, C - Really improved his defense last year. Will this year be the offensive breakout?

28 Marcos Diplan, RHP - Saw a lot of Spring Training innings, and looks like a fun future reliever.

29 Mario Feliciano, C - Still young, but hasn't done much of note so far.

30 Wes Wilson, 2B - Nice numbers, but does he have a position where he isn't going to be a liability?

31 Chad McClanahan, 1B/OF - Another young guy who has all the talent in the world, but is treading water. Time to pick it up.

32 Reese Olson, RHP - Later round bonus baby last year. Paid him almost $1/2 million for a reason.

33 Lun Zhao, RHP - Super, duper young but talented.

34 Max McDowell, C - Terrific defense will get him to MLB someday. Will there ever be enough offense to keep him there?

35 Angel Perdomo, LHP - Fun waiver add in the offseason who could end up being a steal. Showed some great stuff in Spring Training.

36 Thomas Jankins, RHP - Pitched really well at the end of the year. Can he capitalize on it?

37 Cam Roegner, LHP - Crafty lefty will be 26 in June. It's time to see him in AAA full time. If he can't be effective, it may be time to move on.

38 Nate Kirby, LHP - The Brewers spent a high pick on him, and he's pretty much been hurt ever since. Already 25. Time to get him in AA, let him start and see what you have.

39 Conor Harber, RHP - Another one of those "maybe" pitchers that looks really good for stretches. Edit: Cut today. D'oh!

40 Jake Hager, SS - I hope he sees time at AAA, but might be tough with Hiura, Dubon, Erceg, Orf and Saladino kicking around.

Still preliminary, and if we learn the rosters in time, it could change a few of those listed, especially the Wisconsin pitching staff. If Jarvis or Olson cracks the Wisconsin rotation, I'll probably elevate them into the top 25. Even at going out to 50, it seemed as if I left a fair number out.

1. Keston Hiura: Easy choice

2. Zack Brown: Always been a big fan of his. Could be the Brewers next better stuff than results in college success story after Woodruff's rise

3. Corey Ray: Just cut down on the K's

4. Brice Turang: Just holding his own at Wisconsin this year would be a good sign.

5. Tristen Lutz: Hoping for a second year breakout. Still really like the upside.

6. Jacob Nottingham: If the more optimistic takes on his defense are correct, think he can be a solid starter.

7. Aaron Ashby: One of the Brewers' most important prospects given the dearth of left-handed starting options, especially ones with big-time stuff

8. Pablo Abreu: The positive spring training reports made it official. This is the new Zack Brown-style prospect bandwagon I'm helping lead.

9. Mauricio Dubon: At worst probably a solid utility man, but a bit nervous about the upside.

10. Payton Henry: No one seems to have a bad word to say about him.

11. Trey Supak: The likelihood of getting sent back to AA tempers my enthusiasm a bit.

12. Lucas Erceg: Hoping he can be a bit of a late-bloomer after last-season's struggles.

13. Braden Webb: Would be higher if I was convinced he could start.

14. Carlos Rodriguez: Hit tool definitely seems to be there.

15. Adrian Houser: Still think he can be an above average Big League reliever.

16. Joe Gray: Lots of talent, but can it all come together.

17. Troy Stokes: K's and the arm. The latter can't be fixed, but if he can curb the former, it might not matter as much.

18. Mario Feliciano: Still think there is talent there after a lost season.

19. Je'Von Ward: This is kind of the dropoff point, so I went with upside

20. Trent Grisham: I'm probably reading too much into his big spring, but if he could find a way to blend power and contact with his on-base skills, the Brewers might have something here.

21. Reese Olson: In a year when the Brewers were pretty conservative about starting pitching assignments, him making Wisconsin's roster says something

22. Tyrone Taylor: Strong spring puts him back on the map

23. Max Lazar: Helena stats really good in context.

24. Marcos Diplan: Keep wanting to like him, but the results have to start showing through.

25. Miguel Sanchez: Can never have too many solid relief arms

I spent some significant time at spring training this year. Here is my list with comments.

1 Hiura K - Does nothing but hit.

2 Brown Z - Ceiling not as high as Woodruff or Burnes but could be Davies part 2.

3 Turang B - Long way to go but the bat and athleticism look elite.

4 Ashby A - 95 mph fastball with a nasty 12-6 curve. I have him as my 2019 breakout pitcher.

5 Ray C - I've never been high on Ray and I'm still not. Too many K's.

6 Rasmussen D - TOR stuff. Could be the steal of the 2018 draft.

7 Houser A - Nasty stuff. Very impressive in spring training.

8 Webb B - Reminds me Taylor Williams.

9 Olczak J - Impressive at spring training. I think he is a big league reliever.

10 Griep N - Always overlooked. Another solid bullpen arm.

11 Sanchez M - Opened eyes at spring trianing. Another bullpen arm.

12 Supak T - Big dude with big fastball.

13 Nottingham J - Star is dim and almost extinguished.

14 Erceg L - Good power but low obp still. Major bummer.

15 Hinojosa CJ - Pretty much interchangeable with Dubon.

16 Dubon M - Likely not going to hit enough to be an everyday MLB SS.

17 Lutz T - Not impressed at spring training. Not as big as I thought. Also don't like his swing.

18 Diplan M - Stock falling. Bad spring.

19 Stokes T - Low batting average and not enough power to compensate.

20 Henry P - Not impressive this spring.

21 Grisham T - Low BA, high OBP. Goodness if he cuts down the K's and gets a few more hits.

22 Gatewood J - I don't think its going to happen for Jake.

23 Wahl B - Solid bullpen arm.

24 Lemons K - High upside.

25 Taylor T - Ceiling is a decent 4th outfielder.

26 Perdomom L - Good stuff but very unrefined.

27 Hill A - Solid college arm.
