Nashville trip

TURBO

Anyone have pointers about or must see things in Nashville?

Will be heading there with my wife and 21 year old daughter. None of us are big drinkers, but we will be taking in some night life to see what all the talk is about when it comes to their music scene...

(I'm not a big country music fan, in fact, I'm not a country fan at all, but when in Nashville...)

Also, we'll be there before the Nashville Sounds start their season, so that is out... :(

As someone who hates country music, I found the Country Music Hall of Fame somewhat interesting. Tour the Ryman Auditorium and Hatch Show Print. Centennial Park is a nice park to walk for an hour or so. I think they have a free World's Fair museum there too. I might be confusing that with St. Louis though.

I remember being impressed by the Opryland Resort hotel. We were going to stop in Nashville on the way to Florida this year and were going to stop again at the hotl but decided to go a little out of our way to Memphis instead. If the hotel is out of your price range it's worth just stopping in for half a day. They charge quite a bit to park but I seem to recall parking at a mall and walking over. I don't remember the details but it must have been on the up and up because I wouldn't have risked being towed in a rental car.

The Parthenon in Centennial Park is a must see, pictures do not do it justice! Another place I enjoyed was Cheekwood. If food is a big part of your trip, The Gulch is an area filled with many niche restaurants that are bound to satisfy any taste. The Schermerhorn, home of the Nashville Symphony is quite enjoyable, as is the Frist Art Center. You can check out a NHL game with the Predators at Bridgestone.

Robert’s Western World for some good honky tonk music. I’m not a country guy either but I had a great time there, it’s apparently pretty well regarded by the locals and the music was great. I thought the Parthenon was cool too.

1. Edley's BBQ

2. Edley's BBQ

3. Edley's BBQ

Fixed.

Edley's on 12th Ave South for BBQ, and for the after dinner drink you must get a Bushwhacker (kind of a frozen slushy thing with your choice of syrups lining the mason jar). The whole 12th Ave South area is a really cool area to walk around. One of those places you wouldn't have been caught dead in 20 years ago, but now is one of the hottest neighborhoods in the city. Lots of restaurants, shops, wall murals, and a big park. The 21-year-old will love it because there are tons of 18-24 year olds walking around. Mafioaoza's Pizza has a great beer selection and double bubble happy hour. Flipside is kind of a hip retro diner thing, and you might catch some young up and comer singers working there as waitstaff. Taylor Swift has been spotted at Epice (an uppity Lebanese restaurant). There are old service stations that have been converted into shops/hair salons/etc. There's a Marine Layer clothing store opening up if that floats your boat.

Also, there is a giant antique warehouse (not the 12th Ave South neighborhood) that I believe is owned by the owners of American Pickers. Given the prices of the things in there, I'm pretty sure it has to be owned by them.

I agree with BBQ but I'd also say you should do the southern hot fried chicken while there. Lots of options but I like Hattie Bs.

Absolutely. Hattie B's is incredible.

Also, had a great time just off of Broadway in Printers Alley.
