no word if this is a major league deal or not. wilson appears to be out of options.

if a major league deal, a corresponding move will need to be made on the 40-man roster--likely either bobby wahl to the 60-day injured list, or erik kratz claimed or outrighted.

He doesn't need to be Knebel, he just needs to add another consistent option to the pen. The more guys like this the better and this could be a pretty solid move. Stearns loves to grab an arm at the end of camp and they've tended to work out OK.

I find it a bit underwhelming on paper if Alex Wilson is the answer. Basically throws a 93 mph fastball and 86ish mph slider/cutter. Last year he got around 50% ground balls to go with low k and bb rates. The GB rate is good, but I think he gets hit a bit harder than you'd like for someone that's goign to have so many balls put in play. You definitely only want him in the game when we have a our best possible defense behind him.

I'm not expecting Knebel or Kimbrel, I'm also aware that our bullpen depth isn't great right now. I still am feeling a bit underwhelmed though, hopefully it works out.

No he doesn't need to be Knebel but having that 14.3 K/9 is extremely valuable. It's why I am still holding on to the hope of signing Kimbrel.

This is a solid signing. This signing just made us better and it’s getting frustrating seeing people complain about every signing. It seemed to work out well last year when we brought in guys that people didn’t really like. Not every single move is going to be flashy. We are a better team now than we were yesterday.

In the last week, this team has signed two good solid major league proven bullpen guys with no major warts and we gave up very little. Wilson and Fields are exactly the type of pickup we always do. Torres in 16, Hughes in 17 and Jennings in 18. All 3 of those guys were a net positive to the team all year. Good signings

Well, except the Knebel thing. That kinda makes us worse.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

Adding Fields and Wilson and removing two of Albers, Barnes, or Petricka pretty much makes up the loss of Knebel. Yes having Knebel would be awesome, but having 5 or 6 guys that you can count on consistently to get outs is awesome as well. Adding those two in with Hader, Jeffress when he’s healthy, Claudio, and Guerra is a well above average bullpen.

Not sure I'm buying that. I'd trade Knebel for those two straight up right now. Having said that, I do agree that there may be a bit of an overreaction to losing Knebel. I get what you're saying.

I think this signing probably means Kimbrel was asking for too much or too many years.

Yes maybe it’s reached the extortion point with all the brewer pitching injuries?

Maybe it’s stearns saying no deal to multi year?

Maybe it’s Mark A saying no?
