I don't know if this has been posted yet. I take it this guy is pretty good?

That is significantly higher that what Preston Smith was reported at. If Preston is the better of the two, that would seem to be an awful big pay difference.

Either way, glad we are filling holes. Hopefully the Smith's can discuss their contract terms while standing over opposing QB.

Just thinking these moves over, this has to be a near historical FA signing day (I know not officially until tomorrow) in Packers history. We've had some big signings in the past, and bigger names, but this many all at once? And in the prime of their careers for the most part? Nothing really comes to mind.

Fun day so far, doesn't guarantee anything, but it's nice to be a part of for once.

As others have said, I don't remember a first signing day like this ever. Granted, we had a bit of work to fix our poor drafting and extensions over the last few years.

I'm not overly familiar with any of them, but I like that they are all in their prime and not 30+ signings. That was the main mistake last year.

So do we put "Z-Smith" and "P-Smith" on the jerseys so they don't get confused? "And its a Smith sandwich for the sack! (or would that be Smith squared?)"

I don't think last year was a mistake. It was a bunch of low-risk, high-reward vets, because I don't think they wanted to do anything major until a bunch of ugly money went off the books. I think they knew they were going to be bad last year, but with Rodgers there is always a chance.

They went after Mack because he's a generational player they would have controlled for years, but I think there was a definite strategy in the guys they went after last year vs. this year. I'm also not totally finished on Jimmy Graham. The entire offense was dreadful last season, so I'm hesitant to think we got the best he has to offer.

Could work this in there somehow.

I really liked the moves they made last year too. It was a clear departure from what TT had been doing and none of it seemed like they were spending dangerous amounts of money. This year feels a little more serious, more aggressive. I don't expect it will be this way every year but I like the feel of the last two FA periods, and this one is far from over though the big splashes most likely are.

I look forward to Bob McGinn hating every one of these signings. :)

Just as a reminder of how crappy we were last year... has anyone signed any of our departing FA today?

Not yet, but at some point the Vikes will sign at least one former Packer. That's a guarantee.

Nick Perry seems like he'd be a perfect fit. Perhaps not now, though, with Barr backing out of his Jets deal and resigning with the Vikings.

I felt that the Packers had 5-6 serious holes headed into this offseason (Both safeties, RG, WR 2, 2 Edge guys), and a serious lack of depth across most of the offensive positions. Today, they filled 4 of those holes and still have 3 picks in the top 44 and a ton of 2nd and 3rd day picks to address depth.

A mighty good day for the Packers.

Homer - Nice, but isn't that a P instead of the B?

I'm not done on Graham yet, but we paid a lot of money for meh return in year 1. Hopefully this year will be better for him. He certainly didn't look comfortable out there and maybe we need to adjust on how to use him.

Otherwise, Bell(29) was the only real positive player from last year's FA. (Ages were at the 2018 signing period):

- Graham (31) wasn't horrible, but a TE at $10M+ should've brought more

- Tramon (35) - a little better when he moved to safety

- House (28) - bad signing. Looks like the tank is empty for him.

- Wilkerson (29) - actually a good signing for the $$, but got injured.

- Lewis (33) - a bit of a bonus at the end of FA, but really did nothing on the team.

So going for guys in the 25-27 range is a big change. Hopefully catching them on the upswing

I don't think they need much of anything at WR. The guys they drafted are really good. It takes a bit of time for that to materialize but they're good. Adams is a stud, I still think G-Mo is a really good player, but now it's a question of his health. Last year I saw him as a 1,000 yard guy and he was on his way there before he got hurt. I still really like him but I think this is his last chance.

A vet WR wouldn't bother me but I don't think they need a big name there by any means. I'd be happy with an average veteran that knows how to play every week.

Yeah they could really use a slot receiver.

I'm in agreement at WR too. Kumerow has a chance to be decent in the slot, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings to grab on in the draft either. 2nd round seems to be our sweet spot for WRs. But at this point, grabbing someone special at #12 might be possible too.

They could use a solid slot guy. I see Adams, Allison, Valdez-Scantling, St. Brown, Lazard and Moore as all boundary types. The only WR that fits the profile is Kumerow, and who knows what they really have in him?

Honestly, it wouldn't break my heart to have Cobb back at a small deal. But I started thinking about our new offense... I think we will be using the 3 WR sets much less frequently than in the past. Wouldn't you expect to see more 2WR/2TE sets?
