2019 NFL Free Agency/A Busy Day for Green Bay

Ron Robinsons Beard
Rodgers had a solid response to the ordeal on Wilde and Tausch. Worth looking up.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

That exchange with Carlos Rogers has been made way too big particularly in this thread. His whole point in sharing it was that Rodgers made jokes he would never be able to take himself, which in retrospect, is probably 100% true. Since Jennings has admitted his whole beef began with Rodgers not wanting to keep him in GB, it makes a lot of sense that story would stick with him. But he is sensitive.

On the second part, those guys share stories when called and asked. If Colin Cowherd calls him and invites him on the show, why isn't he going to say yes and answer some questions? Jennings is working as an analyst, so it makes little sense for him to reject air time. But I don't put he and Finley in the same category. One has, for the most part, simply shared his experiences in GB and admitted a little bit of bad blood. The other is, frankly, not very bright, and just venting spleen at the nearest tape recorder.

Finley had nothing but positive things to say about Rodgers back when he was playing and right after the injury.

This was in the same article where he talks about how he's rather have Aaron Rodgers.

“I have to blame AR [Rodgers] for taking $200 million. You have to spread the wealth if you want results out of your receivers,” Finley told FanSided’s Mark Carman. “I see Tom Brady is here all the time. He spreads the wealth. His defense holds the scoreboard down, and he has the little pieces to get him here. If you get enough rings the money will come.

Remember when Finley came back to the Packers for I think 2 years and 14 million when he wanted a much bigger deal? This just seems to be jealousy to me. Nothing he says has any validity to me. It's almost exclusively about his "200 million" when in fact it's actually 134 and it's not the Packers were using their cap room before to get him the weapons Rodgers is talking about or for that matter like the Pats spend money on their WR core. They trade guys before they're due big money(Cooks last year one example).

I also remember Finley, after he retired complaining about all the coverage that Tim Teabow was getting when Aaron Rodgers should be getting it because "he's the greatest to ever play."

I also wish to hell I could fine the quote where Finley talks about what Rodgers expects out of his receivers. It was something along the lines of "He expects you to know every route, every audible, it's crazy."

What can you even say about that? He's the one guy in this whole drama that I just think is not a real bright guy. I don't buy MM has a low football IQ...not sure if Arod said it or not, but not buying that. Jennings points to a single incident as has been repeatedly pointed out, a comment during a game as the point of his contention, they were good before that.

Aaron Rodgers is uber-sensitive, he's arrogant and he expects his receivers to be exactly where he expects when he expects them there. Are any of these things really issues that prevent the organization from winning a Super Bowl? And for the record, I believe Favre was those things and far-far worse early in his career. At least Rodgers isn't married with kids doing the things Favre was doing.

So much for Jeff Janis being part of the Rodgers bashing train.

As of now I see Finley who as I said I have very little respect for anymore, Jennings who appears equally as sensitive, and KGB who said Rodgers was Arrogant and Favre wasn't as arrogant as you'd expect given all he'd accomplished when Rodgers first came in as the starter in 2008.

I think this pretty much sums up smear piece that Tyler Dunne did with tabloid like anecdotal pieces of "evidence" like how McCarthy would "sneak" the massage therapist up the back way like he's talking about some prostitute or some really shady dealings. Football coaches are known for having bad backs from working insanely long hours.

"Everyone knows negativity sells," Nelson said. "People don't want to hear (the good). People feel better about themselves when they hear bad things about other people. And that's why that gets more pub. I mean, no one wants to hear that Aaron's not only obviously a great quarterback but a great leader and does everything right. All right, there's your story. What fun is that? So whenever they can, they go back to the well and get the same people to say the same stuff."

Nelson took particular issue with Finley's recent comment about Rodgers' perceived trust issues.

"He's got a trust issue."

"For what reason, I don't know."

Fascinating insight into #Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers from former teammate @JermichaelF88.#SuperBowl #SBLIII pic.twitter.com/eStvrtuvps

"When you actually read the comments and what they say, it makes absolutely no sense," Nelson said. "A quarterback expects you to practice well and do what you're supposed to do on the practice field in order to be successful in a game? That's pretty well what's expected."

So basically, this stuff is largely made up and Finley's a moron for being surprised that the QB actually won't throw to you if you don't know the playbook or your routes.

Again, Rodgers absolutely has his faults and I do think it's obvious with young WR'ers. It'd be cool if he was like Brady and was working out with MVS and St. Brown in particular during the off-season, but hopefully the new offense will make for some easier completions, some quicker completions and then their speed, size and play making ability will just help them get some yac yards and then Rodgers will start trusting them.

Hell, he's gonna have to if he wants to win. It's very possible he's got a rookie RB, WR and TE who are all expected to contribute significantly this year, plus 3 young WR'ers from last year if you're still counting Moore, which I'm sure most are.

Curious if the Pack will sign anyone prior to the draft in these next two weeks

This was the time frame that Jahri Evans signed two years ago. Getting this close to the draft perhaps prices start to come down with jobs becoming harder to come by.

There’s no NFL offseason thread, so I’ll leave this here:

Anyone else catch that the Bills are going to charge fans arriving on buses a premium beyond parking fees for the privelage of tailgating? Here the team has been awful for 20 years and the Bills Mafia has still found a way to make tailgating fun, but then the brass comes in to monetize it under the guise of ‘fan safety.’

First of all, Bills fans do a LOT of really stupid, really dangerous crap in the pre-games. Guys are regularly going to the hospital and they have to spend quite a bit on security for the parking lots.

But second, and most importantly....why NOT do this if you're the Bills? The fans are going to pay for it. I doubt they have any drop off in attendance and if they have fewer people tailgating, they probably won't be too upset given how obnoxious they are.

I get the idea, it sucks that they keep trying to take more money from the fans, but that's corporate America. The biggest corporations pay very little in taxes, CEO's break the law and the company gets fined 500 million and he gets a 250 million dollar bonus on his way out because they still made a few billion on the deal.

Just the way of the world.

I'd guess that they might look at someone after the draft to fill any last holes. Wilkerson seems highly probable depending on how they draft. Another safety might make sense too.

I had a little breakdown of the remaining free agents(and arguably mental) between spending about 10 hours going through resumes the other night.

I even suggested the Packers sign Suh to play the 5 tech!

Realistically though, I would like to see a guy like Morris Claiborne brought in on a cheap deal. I also mentioned Zach Brown as our MLB'ers are so thin.

We could use help in both areas and both are veterans. Though Brown is a pretty damn good player, so I'm not sure why he has to keep going year to year.

Look, it’d be different if the Bills we’re enjoying sustained success. The Packers have further monetized their parking lot by adding VIP areas at the expense of the little guy who just wanted to park nearby for $25. That’s business. I get it. The Bills have been awful for 20 years, but their most loyal fans have still found a way to make game day fun on their own (while still paying full price for a bad product). If they need more security on game day, just raise the parking prices.
