Bobby Wahl likely out for the year with torn ACL

because the injury happened in a major league game, wahl cannot be optioned and will have to be placed on the injured list. because the 40-man is currently full, he could be placed on the 60-day injured list.

Seems crazy that it applies to ST games. There are a lot of minor leaguers that mop up the end of these games.

I would assume it's because he's currently on the 40 man. And this wouldn't apply to any random A-baller who happens to get into a big league game.

correct. any player on the 40-man injured in a major league game would be entitled to be placed on the major league injured list.

Full $555,000 salary for him in 2019 while on the 60-day DL.

Not the worst consolation prize, but surely not the way he wanted to collect that sum.

And he'll carry that minor league option into 2020.

True but it also counts as a year of service toward arbitration & free agency....

Is that a big concern with a guy who will be 28 next year and can't stay on the field? This isn't his first season ending injury. I think the injury history is the bigger concern.

It's an ACL, not an arm injury.

Uh yeah, he's already had plenty of arm injuries.

In his career so far

- Wahl dealt with oblique and elbow problems

- underwent thoracic outlet syndrome surgery in 2017.

- sore forearm

-hamstring

IP by year

2014 - 53

2015 -32

2016 - 53

2017 - 23

2018 - 49

2019 - 0

Not exactly Old Hoss Radburn. Seems like it will be a minor miracle if this guy sees the mound enough to get to free agency, IMO.

Disappointed for sure. I was looking forward to watching him this season and he was likely in line to be on the shuttle squad. As others have mentioned, the Brewers still have good pitching depth and this doesn't affect them that much.

Full season of a major league salary and a full season of service time aint bad, but I'm sure he'd rather be playing.

Bummer, was really looking to see what he could do this season. At least it wasn't an arm injury I guess. We should totally sign Kimbrel if he'd take a two year deal btw.

While this is certainly a bummer, it fortunately happened to the unit that is arguably the deepest on the team. This is going to give guys like Petricka, Houser and Jay Jackson a much better shot at if not making the team, contributing to the ML bullpen at some point in 2019.
