Soto or Vlad Jr. in a keeper league?

I'm guessing that there would be a chance that Vlad might still be there with the 12th and 13th pick (12 team league which I won last year, hence the 12th and 13th pick) Can't say the same with Soto...

It's a very competitive league, and we keep 6 players.

Yeah for sure. Question is how high do you take them? Vlad is going top 50 in most leagues. Kinda crazy when he might not play for a month but if you want him as a keeper then it makes sense. Soto might be even more valuable because he's already had a MLB 900+ OPS season at age 19. That's crazy.

Is Chris Sale's arm going to fall off this year? I need to know by midnight tonight.

I have the same fear. If I was him I'd have locked in a big contract this offseason rather than risk it. But I guess I'm not enough of a gambler.

I'm worried about Severino and Kershaw.

I have Kershaw on two keeper rosters, and Severino on all 3.

Both look to be in some trouble, and it seems to me like the end result for Severino is going to be Tommy John, wish they would come out and announce it already.

I think you have to take some risks in fantasy if you want to win the whole thing. Without getting into our scoring system, that's why I'm keeping Sale. If he pitches the exact same number of innings as last year he's a top 15 pitcher. Or I hope he starts out great and then trade him mid-season.

Severino is a different story. He's still got rotator cuff soreness after a whole off season. I would avoid him if possible.

I thought I heard shoulder for Severino, not elbow...which I would consider potentially much worse than TJ actually.

I play in a dynasty league with very deep rosters. Lately I've been trading all my mid-tier pitching for bats and draft picks. I just find pitching too volatile unless it's elite. No sense in sticking with an "established" upper 3's era guy that's 31 and could fall off at any time.

When is it gonna happen for Max as well? With how violent he throws something has to happen at some point like it did with Kershaw the last couple years.

Right, very few guys are built like Sabathia/Verlander...where they can basically just pitch forever. Maybe Scherzer is one of those guys though...who knows.

Scherzer is nuts. 9 straight years of 190+ innings.

I would keep Soto.

He has performed as a major leaguer, while Vlad is still unproven. And Vlad's body scares me. He's thick the way Kevin Mitchell and Pablo Sandoval were thick. I don't know if any great player was that thick, that young, and perform for 12 years. Being a Keeper league matters.

I am starting to go this way, especially now that Vlad is hurt... I'd probably risk it at my 1st or 2nd round pick if he is still there somehow though. (I will have the 12th and 13th pick in the draft)

This is who I have to choose from:

Soto

Vlad Jr.

Scherzer

Sale

deGrom

Syndergaard

Kershaw

Severino

I'll be keeping 6 of them...Last season, I kept all 6 pitchers, which paid off because Kershaw was practically a non factor. Grabbed Soto in the draft, and Vlad off the WW and stashed him for the season.

I have won this league for so many years in a row that I'm not sure how many, but it is all because of my pitching. I am usually able to put together a decent offense in the draft, and am a waiver wire hound throughout the season.

As you can see, my pithing is my strength, in a major way.

Severino and Kershaw really scare me.

I was all set to let Kershaw go, then the news came out about Severino, and it does appear to be right rotator cuff inflammation.

I have to have my keepers chosen by midnight tonight, so it is imperative that I make the right decision. I doubt that Kershaw, Severino, Soto or Vlad will make it to my first round pick at #12 in the draft. Odds are all 4 would be gone, but then again, maybe not. There may be other owners scared by Kershaw and Severino injuries as well. With 6 keepers, what is out there to draft in pretty meager, which is why it drives me nuts to throw 2 of that list back into the draft... Soto would not make it to me for certain. I think that is a given. So I think he is set as a keeper.

Right now, my gut tells me to go with this:

Scherzer

Sale

deGrom

Syndergaard

Severino

Soto

This is the latest on Severino:

Severino has been encouraged by how he feels in the days following a cortisone shot in his throwing shoulder and no longer feels pain when lifting his arm, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.

Analysis: Severino received a cortisone shot in his right shoulder Wednesday after MRI results showed right rotator cuff inflammation. He'll rest for the next two weeks and will then commence a throwing program to get him ready for the regular season. Although Severino remains unlikely to be ready for the season opener, this is positive news in the early going for one of the Yankees' top arms.

I think you have 5 locks in Max, Sale, two Mets, Soto. Leaving one of Kershaw, Vlad, Severino.

I think I'd eliminate Severino first due to the injury risk and being in the AL and that between him and Kershaw I just have to trust Kershaw for one more year. So Kersh over him if I go P. But, i think I go Vlad due to you being so ridiculous on P already plus the age of course. The hype on him will likely have him drafted before you as well whereas the injuries to the Ps might make them fall.

I would also go Vlad as well. I don't love the idea of trusting pitchers that are injured right now. Especially with how bad shoulder injuries can be. I think I personally would rank those last 3 Vlad, Severino, Kershaw. I just think Kershaw is broken. He'll probably have stints of being able to stay healthy...but I have a hard time believing he'll throw 180 innings again. And his velocity has tanked, I just think his body is done.

Severino still not looking good. It seems to be a MAJOR risk to keep the guy.

Keeper deadline was extended until tonight at midnight.

My plan right now is to keep:

1. Scherzer

2. Sale

3. deGrom

4. Syndergaard

5. Soto

Choice is now between Kershaw and Vlad.

I am leaning toward Kershaw, anyone care to talk me off the ledge?

I don't know what scoring in your league is like but this may be the only chance you have to keep Vlad.

Ok, I am now leaning towards Vlad over Kershaw. Kershaw seems to be on the downside of his career, where Vlad is completely opposite.

Was really hoping for some new news on Severino, but nothing I can find.

Final decision:

Scherzer

Sale

deGrom

Syndergaard

Soto

Vlad Jr.

KILLS me to let Severino and Kershaw back into the draft pool. I grabbed Severino after his first start and kept him. Kershaw has been on my team since his rookie year.

I think it's better to let a guy go a year early than a year too late. Kershaw, while good, is replaceable at this point through the draft.
