Marwin Gonzalez to Twins

Hmm, probably would've done that over Moose and I'm not very high on Gonzalez. Guess we just had no interest in a 2nd year. Or maybe Twins have clearer PT for him without a top prospect coming so he liked that better(I don't know much about Twins). Personally I think he'd have got plenty of PT here with 2B open now, potential at SS if Arcia can't hit, Braun injuries so I'd guess it was MKE not wanting to pay. His versatility seems so much more important to an NL team, surprised one didn't get him.

I like this deal for the Twins too. Gonzalez would have been a perfect fit for this team, although obviously it wasn't going to happen after Moose was signed. Marwin could have been a terrific super-sub if/when Hiura is ready.

Oh well .... Brewers can just trade for him when the Twins are bad again this year or next ;)

I have no idea what his SS defense is like. But, if he could play close to average SS, I would have wanted this over Moose. Provide insurance on everybody, but especially Arcia's bat if it goes cold again next year.

Who knows what Gonzalez was asking before the Brewers signed Moose though. He probably dropped his demands a few million when we dropped out of the running for him. Music is starting to stop and only so many chairs remaining.

It wouldn't shock me in the slightest if the Brewers preferred Moose over Gonzalez. Even if the contracts were equal. Clearly they preferred a 1 year commitment but I don't think Moose's option is an automatic decline for them next season.

I ran through it a month or two back and my recollection was that he checked out as an above average defender everywhere except SS. SS he was fine/average/slightly below average. He played there a lot last year with Correa out so he can't be too bad

Outside of one big year, Gonzalez hasn't really been anything special. I am glad they went with Moustakas who is superior defensively and a better bat.

Agreed. Moose offers professional experience at third, short (minors - and he wasn't a butcher with a .959 fielding percentage), and first - and I think he'll do just fine at second as well.

2 years $21 million. This is so much less than I expected for him, but I think I was much more bullish on him than most.

I believe he is way over-hyped. Villar had a better year than MG and he is just as versatile. $10.5M is a darn nice contract for a super-sub.

At SS he was a -5 and no more than average (either a 0 or 1) at every other infield position. He is a plus defender in LF-RF.
