Jeff Passan just tweeted. Not official yet. 10 years, $300 million which is a lot of money

Manny Machado has signed with the San Diego #Padres, as reported first by @JeffPassan . They offered an eight-year deal worth at least $240 million to $280 million last week and no one topped it.

I don't know why but I like it.

I just like another team signing top tier free agents. Padres have a good system...window is now open for them.

I think that is it. Nice to see a team you usually don't see in the mix.

So it is 10 years 300 million after all.........that's a lot of money to get in a "broken system".......

BREAKING: Manny Machado has agreed to terms on a deal with the Padres. According to a league source, it’s for 10 years and $300 million - the biggest free-agent contract in the history of American sports.

I am now confused at what the holdup was. If this deal was on the table for a while, he should've signed weeks ago.

He wanted certain teams to offer him that contract. Wanted to be on an immediate contender rather than an up and coming team with prospects.

My personal feeling is that they are going to be regretting this contract in a few years. I'm happy he went there and not to the Phillies or Yankees, though.

He’s 26 and a 5-7 WAR player every year at a prime position. There’s little reason to think his value will go down the next few years.

does that park affect his offensive production much?

What happens if (when?) the Padres and Reds finish with win totals in the mid-70s. Will anyone ever spend money again?

Well the Rangers signed ARod and here we are today so...yes.

He's a generational talent, but also comes off as lazy and entitled. Those are the types that get their huge money and go into coast-mode. Perhaps coast-mode for him is still All-Star-type numbers. It's just my personal feeling, which could very well be wrong. perhaps I just don't like the guy, and am letting that bias seep in.
