“Disabled” List Name Change to “Injured List”

I am a daily lurker logging in for the first time in maybe years to agree with this.

Anyone actually bothered by this change needs to sit down and take a deep breath.

This overall seems like something done to try and divert attention from other concerns currently harped on across MLB when there aren't daily games to distract fans and reporters. It's alot easier to debate the merits of making what amounts to pointless term changes with no regard to context than it is to tackle the current gripes of the players' union with free agency/player compensation. Can't wait for the first beat writer to inadvertently say a player is headed to the Disabled List and have them branded as hating wounded veterans.

Times change. Remember when it was socially acceptable to say the "R" word? To put it in a sentence, those Cub fans are a bunch for R-words.

You mean "Ricketts"?

I'll admit it, I have no idea what the "R" word is. Rascals?

I had to wiki it...the disabled list started in 1966. I somehow wondered if it was called the crippled list before that.

What WAS it called? I've never given this topic two neurons worth of thought until seeing this thread.

Those two neurons are now dead. RIP

Expressing outrage (faux or for real) about "political correctness gone mad" over non-issues is a very popular pasttime in certain circles for some reason. Has been for a long time.

Since they decided to change it they should have stolen PUP List from the NFL. They could even get Cialis to sponsor it. Ba dum bum.

Actually I do like how the NFL handles their injury designations. Physically unable to perform and Injured Reserve are pretty straight forward and inoffensive.

IL is going to take some getting used to. I never thought I'd get used to it when the WWF changed to WWE but that worked out in the end too.

Injured really isn’t accurate as the player may no longer be injured, but instead are rehabbing in the minors. They just are unable to play in the majors yet. What could you call someone that is unable to play? “Dis-abled” would seem to be a good term for that as it’s the literal definition of not being able to play.

It bothers me that you are so sensitive in regards to other people's sensitivity about other people being sensitive.

What gets me is the argument that people are wasting time on small things when there are bigger problems to fix. Small problems are easier to fix and often why they are fixed first. It's alot easier to wake up and do the dishes than solve world hunger. It doesn't negate that bigger problems are still on the radar, it's just that they are more complex to solve.

I agree, this wasn't a big issue for me personally, but I see the point on changing it. Not a big deal and language changes all the time.

Not a big deal and language changes all the time.

And generally the only people who actually benefit from changing the language are those who have the power to change the language and want to distance themselves from the vulgar common folk-- under the guise of protecting those same folk that the language change is meant to "help".

God help me. When is opening day?

I am intolerant of your intolerance towards my intolerance of the intolerance shown by some folks who just want to be... wait, where were we?
