Miller Park name change coming after the 2020 season

Why would the Brewers get a number significantly less than that?

It's the 2nd naming of the stadium, as many people have indicated it will always be "Miller Park" to them so there is often a hit with the 2nd naming as the new name is often ignored. It's very likely after the next naming contract for the Bucks that they get a lot less than the initial naming rights...

Ah, that makes some sense.

I would also add all of the extra concerts and events the an arena will hold in comparison to the few concerts the Miller Park holds. Fiserv Forum can be used 365 days a year.

I still refer to Miller Park as County Stadium so this changes nothing for me.

For me it's:

First Wisconsin Building

Marquette Warriors

Marc Plaza

Wow, Marc Plaza, forgot all about that one! I actually worked for "First Wisconsin" when it was still "First Wisconsin", then left about a year before they changed from "Firstar" to "U.S. Bank".

User in-game thread post in 1st inning of 3rd game of the 2022 season: "This team stinks"

As an alumnus I am firmly on record that they won't get one dollar of donations from me until they get rid of the "Golden Eagles" abomination....

I was talking with a sports marketing manager last year and she heard that the Brewers were looking into changing the name if Miller left to "Insert Sponsor Name here" presents Selig Field in honor of ole' Bud Selig. I wonder if that will happen, "American Family Presents Selig Field".. I guess that would cause more internet craziness..

I often wonder how the Golden State Warriors have been able to thrive in California under the same moniker.

Because they are smart enough to understand the term "warrior" refers to fighters across multiple cultures, not just Native Americans... They also don't have any promotional logos, etc. that make a clear relationship between the name "Warriors" and Native Americans... Marquette could have just adopted similar "generic" logos for "Warriors", but instead tripped head first into the... (the remainder of this post won't pass any profanity filter)....

So if were talking to a friend would I say "You wanna shoot over to American Family presents Selig Field to catch the Brewers this afternoon" or would it be more "Hey, Im at Selig Field watching that Billy Joel concert, thanks for the tickets"

If that were to be a thing ever, it needs to be done for Uecker.

That is strange because it isn't even the same structure. I feel like once you build a new stadium that name should rightfully change.

I disagree. Also I am kidding.

If anyone thinks that the naming rights money will go into the players on the field, I think you are sadly mistaken...
I believe that the brewers have been using revenue sharing money to rebuild maryvalle. Also mark a has been constantly paying off the debt he assumed when he bought the team. More likely that this money is out I to a fund for stadium upgrades rather than buying a 2 million dollar bench player.

Which I have no problem with but the team should be honest about it instead of saying this is how small market teams compete.

Been a lurker for years and enjoyed visiting these forums daily to feed my Brewer fandom. This recent news has finally pushed me to register. I am in management at American Family and can say that the reaction in house is not that different than I am seeing in the general public. I would, however, like to add some more information that may add some additional things to consider. This is not just a naming rights deal for American Family, this is just one aspect of a huge commitment to the greater Milwaukee area in general. American Family has shifted hard into investing in community efforts around the country and Milwaukee was chosen as their next location. Here are some of the other big investments they are making:

Milwaukee workplace: Combining the Pewaukee regional office with a mixed-talent group of targeted corporate functions, including local career-development paths.

Community investment: Creating deliberate and intentional partnerships with local businesses, government entities and charities to have a lasting economic impact.

University partnership: Aligning a variety of university relationships and programs with talent recruitment and development goals, such as tech scholarships, internships and youth development.

Institute for Corporate and Social Impact: Extending the mission of the Institute into this new market to increase the impact of our socially-minded investments and partnerships.

Storefront and recruitment center: Creating a first-of-its-kind center to provide continuous delivery to market, along with developing a diverse and talented sales base.

DreamBank: This will authentically represent and be easily accessible to the greater Milwaukee community through thoughtful and intentional focus on diversity and inclusion of staff, speakers, content, events, tools, resources, partnerships and paid media, all of which will differentiate it from the Madison DreamBank experience.

This is going to be a huge investment not only to the park, but also to the community as well.

All this being said, it will always be Miller Park to me also!

I don't think anyone is upset that it is AmFam specifically, and I don't think anyone is questioning AmFam's impact in Madison and Wisconsin. I think it's more that there is change, period, or (in my case), that it's changing from something so ingrained in Milwaukee/Wisconsin culture and that goes along so great with baseball. Beer and Brewers baseball goes together like peas and carrots (Jenny...). Insurance and baseball, not so much. If the stadium was currently US Bank Field, State Farm Field, or any other financial/insurance name, I don't think people would really care (I wouldn't). It's just going from perfection to another boring corporate named stadium.

I'm not mad at the Brewers. I'm not mad at Miller. I'm not mad at AmFam. This surprised me as the idea of the stadium name changing never crossed my mind. It probably should have, but it never did. I just hope the name isn't awful. Keep it short: AmFam Field. My guess is that it'll have the entire "American Family Insurance" in the name. I hope I'm wrong.

This... Have to think someone as business savvy as Mark A. would follow the trend of buying sports teams with other people's money (see also McCourt, Frank). So while I consider Mark A. a real fan, he also views the team as an investment. Taking profits to shoring up his stake and maximizing the return on his investment by retiring debt and/or buying out minority owners, so at some point he has a clean exit option, whether that is selling the team, or leaving it to his family to run. The latter seeming a bit unlikely given the exploits of his children, but who knows.

I think the era of sports franchises being treated as toys for the ultra-rich is coming to a close. Thankfully so, since for every Mike Illitch that treats their team like a charity, there's plenty more that treat it like a forgotten classic car in a barn, left to rot or be torn apart by their grandchildren.

There's a loss of mystique though, this change in naming being one visible manifestation of that.

It will be AmFam and it will be AmFam Park...not field. Why? Well for starters that is what was on the back of the jersey they got at the announcement. I think that was more than just the convenience of it fitting on the jersey. People keep throwing out “Field” and I don’t get it. It was named Park before I except that to continue.

If not I would guess American Family Park. I don’t see Insurance being included...just don’t see it.

I can't wait for the first Brewers home run after the name change. Instead of going down the slide, Bernie trips and falls off the chalet and winds up on a stretcher in the concourse. The PA announcer says, "Don't worry folks, Bernie's covered by American Family Insurance".

Gruber and Hupy would be waiting for him.

Or Hank Aaron. It would be nearly impossible to go wrong, goodwill-wise, with featuring either Hank or Ueck.

As much as I respect the Commissioner Emeritus...incorporating his name would make the franchise a laughingstock with a lot of the rest of the baseball world. Fairly or otherwise.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.
