Miller Park name change coming after the 2020 season

They can't make me recognize the name change, and I won't. I bet the Packers are jealous of this, just thinking of all of the sweet, sweet unnecesary cash in addition to the already guaranteed profit they have from being part of a protected monopoly. When they eventually try some stupid Lambeau Field presented by Doritos we will see the real outrage, although I am glad to see the general outrage over this stunt

Initial thought was nooooo, this is horrible. Now after sitting on it, I don't care too much. I'll still call it Miller Park. I think many others will too. Like another poster mentioned, I bet Miller Coors probably called their bluff a little bit. Thinking the name meant more to the Brewers and the City, so they would have to out bid AMFAM. If they just pay to have the rights to sell their beer there, and not for their name on the stadium, how much will they really lose out on?

Now that I'm over the initial shock, I'm wondering why we are hearing about this now, almost two years before they need to make the announcement. Is the change coming sooner? Are they trying to get ahead of the complaint curve? Seems odd.

If I were a guessing man, I believe it has to do with a logo/uniform modification. Does MLB require a certain amount of time between uniform changes? Perhaps this is the reason why it's being announced now.

As I recall, wasn't the change to M with Barley and the script on the uniform done in conjunction with the move to Miller Park? I swear I read an article that made the connection that while they weren't officially linked (uniform with Miller), the uniform script was an informal "wink-wink" nod to Miller.

I have no problem with it, better than Fiserv Forum at least. 100% of people I've talked to from other parts of the country either think it's Pfizer Arena or have no clue who Fiserv is or what they do.

Miller isn't a Milwaukee company, so who cares? They can take their watered down swill with them. (BTW, I see a lot of people talking about how this will open up the beer options. But there already are a ton of other beer choices- and not just at the craft stand.)

We painted the Miller Park logo on the wall in one of the kids' bedrooms. What are we to do?

One other one has the Badger W painted. That probably won't change...

Until he goes to the University of Minnesota.... :rolleyes

:laughing

Hopefully, the Badgers will start a D1 baseball program on or before 2022. Hmmm...

Without getting political, American Family Field does sound better than FoxConn Field

I think that name is cringy because of the political connection. Probably a good reason no matter the money I doubt the Brewers would want that name on the stadium. Purely from a name standpoint Foxconn is better because I think less of a company when I hear it, much like Miller Park. I really am hoping for AmFam Park. I doubt it though.

While overall it is not that big of a deal, it is a bit of a bummer. Money talks in everything in life and sometimes that sucks.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

So why assume it’s the Brewers’ fault? I put the blame on MillerCoors before I do the Brewers.

Because they make the decision. I don't really care about the name change. I just think it's an odd way of going about business. Two years before they needed to they announce a name change to the stadium. Says a lot to MillerCoors that they are basically changing the name while you still pay for the rights... Maybe the hope by the Brewers was that MillerCoors would want out of the agreement so they could make more with an AmFam contract starting now... From my POV, any publicly paid/funded stadium would need to have community ok for the naming. The taxpayers of the 5 counties paid for the stadium yet have no say in what name is on the stadium... Would the Brewers have said no thank you to the stadium if it was a requirement that the team get an OK from a panel of representatives from the 5 counties on the naming rights... Would Hooter's Park be an ok name? How about AAA bail bond's Park or Guaranteed Rate Field? It's just more corporate/billionaire/millionaire welfare where the general public pays for everything and gets sold a bill of goods that they have no "rights"...

[sarcasm]It'll be so well received at Brewers On Deck.[/sarcasm] Quick, David, sign a big name!

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Wouldn't naming rights have already been hashed out when the funding bill was signed? If the lawmakers granted that to the Brewers when the stadium bill was passed, then NO, the 5 county taxpayers wouldn't have any say in the naming of the stadium. That would seem like something specifically spelled out at the outset. I could be wrong.

How would the 5 counties dictate the name? That's how you end up with Stady McStadium Face as the official name. The Brewers do a lot for the 5 counties and have an extremely affordable and generous game day experience. They likely live and die on agreements like this being in such a small city. I couldn't care less if it's Hooters Stadium if that is the highest bid.

How to make people even more upset...introducing American Family Field at Selig Park!

It wasn't and they can't. It should have been part of the original plan, but it was negotiated by a bunch of politicians who generally are idiots...
