Are you reading, Mr. Melvin?

From a draft article...

"I think there was this perception that Jack and I get in a room and fight over high school and college (players)," said Brewers general manager Doug Melvin, whose Texas Rangers clubs in the 1990s tended toward college draft crops. "I have to tell you that that's somewhat comical."

Ahem. No mention of the karate kick?

I've been working on a Melvin decoder and translater and I think I've got it perfected. Running that statement through I came up with:

Melvin: I don't deny that's what happens, I'm just a funny guy and we have fun fighting over who to draft. Actually it's not a room, but in the parking lot because Jack doesn't get near me since I Karate kicked him last year when he wanted to draft a pitcher in the 4th round when he knew we were alternating 5 position players/5 pitchers.

Can someone let me in on the karate kick joke?
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006
