Villar would be a good player for them as they need a leadoff batter and 2B is open.

This Pirates/Reds brawl is the greatest thing in baseball this season. And you're a liar if you disagree.

Usually everyone brushes off what happens and give non-answers after these kinds of things but the Reds flat out said we're glad we did and we'll do it again. I don't think I've ever seen a manger fully condone what his players did after a brawl but David Bell was all for it. Heck, he was right in there with them. He tried to take out Clint Hurdle and he was on the bottom of the pile for awhile himself. Nice to see guys totally own up to what they did and why they did it for a change.

These are the most significant non-drug related suspension I think I've ever seen MLB hand out.

I think the most significant part of this is Hurdle's suspension as he was suspended for things his team had done in prior games as well. If MLB really wants to do something about beanball wars they need to do this more often. Instead of just punishing the guys immediately involved in whatever the incident is they need to punish those that were involved in the events that led up to it as well.

It was incredible.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, red-assed dinosaurs like Clint Hurdle just don't belong in baseball. It's time to move on from this idiocy. Some guy hit a homerun, my feelings are hurt, and now I have to hurl a baseball and someone's head at 95 mph+ to make up for my hurt feelings, and Hurdle just says "that's baseball".

Suspend him for 80 games then next time one of his guys throws up and in and that'll put an end to this idiocy

Wasnt it Derek Dietrich he threw at? So it was a borderline strike?

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Cubs have signed veteran catcher Jonathan Lucroy.

Heyman first hinted that this move might be coming two days ago, after Lucroy was officially released by the Angels. He'll help fill in behind the plate in Chicago while Willson Contreras recovers from a hamstring strain. Victor Caratini should stay plenty active, with Taylor Davis likely heading back to Triple-A Iowa. Lucroy, 33, had batted just .242/.310/.371 over 74 games this year in Anaheim.

Heyman really made a leap on this call. The Cubs were pretty much the only contender that needed catching help once Contreras went down. Round peg fits in round hole...

As much as I like Lucroy, he is now the enemy and I hope he does terribly while a Cub.

Lucroy is a tool anyways. He will fit right in. Oh and he’s not any good.

I’m sure it’s possible. But he’s been bad for a bit now.

I don’t get this comment. Maybe I missed something, but I always thought of Lucroy as a model citizen. I remember him supporting Braun a lot after the “exoneration” and then having quite a bit of egg on his face for the “un-exoneration” (though he wasn’t the only one). He also had to endure a massive amount of vitriol directed towards his wife after the suitcase incident, which was absolutely disgusting, even in this day and age. I’ve always liked him for this, and don’t get why some people dump on him now, except for the shirt he currently wears. Is that it?

Never cared for him much after his comments about wanting to go to a winning team and then declining a trade was enough for me. Selfish dude (and they probably all are) but for me, he showed his true colors a few times. Always enjoyed that he missed out on a WS because of his decision and we made out like bandits from Texas that led to Yelich.

Some were bitter that he rejected a trade to Cleveland, but I think it was just a veiled way of being angry that someone dared to want out of Milwaukee. It was funny when he vetoed it and then Cleveland nearly won the World Series, but it was silly at the time and still is now. Cleveland was on his no-trade list prior to the deal being made. The Brewers were depending on him to waive the clause to go to a place he didn't want to go from the start. The Brewers knew it was a stretch, which was reflected in Counsell's and Stearn's comments when it fell through. So, people basically held it against him that he exercised something pre-negotiated years prior in his contract. You're not supposed to use the things you negotiate for apparently.

Then of course there are the multitude of other reasons a person may not want to go to a certain place, not the least of which was that the Indians had an injured Yan Gomes who was younger than Lucroy and making more.

I remember Lucroy's comments, and at the time they seemed more like a frustrated ultra-competitive person who hated being on a losing/re-building team more than anything actually negative related to Milwaukee the town, the franchise, or the fanbase.. As far as rejecting the Cleveland trade, that was his negotiated right to do so and it worked out great for the Brewers anyway. I think he's a good guy, but his personality would have played better as a regular position player rather than as a catcher. Not sure if that makes total sense, but it does to me, anyway (and probably Randy Wolf, too).

Yup, it's people overreacting to his comments about going to a winning team and psuedo trade demand. We complain when people give cliched BS answers. We get mad when they tell the truth. He told the truth. What player wouldn't want to play on a winning team instead of a rebuild.

Next August the White Sox and Yankees are playing a regular season game at the Field of Dreams site in Dyersville, IA. Apparently fans will walk through the cornfield to get to their seats in a temporary 8,000 seat stadium that will also pay homage to old Comiskey Park.

I'm not sure what to think about this. My initial reaction was that it is ridiculous and cheesy. Then I thought about actually going to the game and thought it would be pretty cool.

Yes, someone doesn’t agree with your stance so it’s overreacting. :laughing Always love that take.
