Not exactly news, but not really worhty of a new thread either. Just wanted to point out that Joseph Daniel Votto is a special ballplayer.

Joey Votto has 6,563 career plate appearances.

He has never popped out to the catcher, pitcher, or first basemen.

He has 7 popups total since 2010.

That's a pretty cool stat. But I would think there are a lot of players who never popped out to the pitcher in their career as pitchers generally don't catch fly balls. The same is a little bit true with first basemen as unless they don't have to move to catch it, the 2B is probably going to catch a fly ball in that area.

1b usually are the ones getting the foul popups on that side, unless they are pretty deep down the line.

Would love to see the Brewers swoop in & sign Machado to something crazy, like a 2 year $70 million deal.

You can leave your Brewer fandom badge at the door, take a long walk, and really think that one over.

Seems to me that adding great players to the Brewers roster is something that Brewers fans should want so I don’t quite follow your post here.

He means Machado is a turd, and he likely joins the majority of Brewer fans in not wanting him on the team. Fortunately, Stearns is a smart GM, and knows Machado would be embraced in Milwaukee about as well as a wet fart.

Machado = Punk.

Could he help us win, yes.

Could I live with myself rooting for him, NO.

I'm with rickh150 and Joey Meyer Bombs. No thank you.

Can add me to that list. His skill set is special but he is a player I don't think our clubhouse needs. One of the top reasons last year was so enjoyable was because of the mixture of guys we had. I don't want Machado in that mess and I don't think the Brewers would either.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

He's no worse than Braun, I don't care if he's a punk as long as he helps us win a WS

I don’t think there are any players left from the time Braun held his infamous press conference. While some fans (me included) have issues with him, I doubt anyone in the current clubhouse has an issue with him.

:indifferent :rolleyes

Difference of opinion, simple as that.

I'd rather win a WS with guys I like, guys I want to root for, over idiot punks like Machado.

Pretty much my thoughts, and I think calling someone less of a fan because they think Machado’s talent on the team would be good is pretty stupid.

Did someone call someone less of a fan based on wanting Machado?

I missed that...

Former MLB reliever John Wetteland has been arrested on sexual abuse of a child charges. Wetteland was the MVP of the 1996 World Series for the Yankees.

The really sad part about this is there were warning signs out there before. It sounds like, this could have and should have been avoided. Hopefully this dude gets put in prison for a long-ass time.

That Trevor Bauer story is also has some legs. I'm sure the Indians are really happy that he is destroying his trade value. Harassing 21 year old girls on Twitter isn't a good look.

It's one thing to dig up tweets from a 15 or a seventeen-year-old and say hey you said some really terrible things when you were a teenager and you're an awful person. This guy is actively on Twitter being a complete tool, and the Indians have told him multiple times to tone it down, and he says that's just who I am and you're going to have to deal with it.

ESPN's Buster Olney says the White Sox's offer to Manny Machado is $175 million for seven years.

He's not the first to say this, but it lends some weight to the previous reports. Obviously, Machado is worth more than $25 million per year, but that doesn't much matter unless someone else steps up. The Phillies and Yankees are his other known suitors at the moment. You'd have to think that other teams would jump into the mix if Machado's market craters to the point where he is seriously considering this White Sox offer. The 26-year-old was said to be seeking a 10-year deal worth more than $300 million at the outset of the offseason.

GOOD! I hope he gets a lot less than he and his agent expected...

I'd be amazed if either Machado or Harper gets an offer in excess of 7 years. I think the Yankees aren't happy with the Stanton deal length, but since Jeter gave him away for almost free they took the bate. I don't really see the Yankees jumping to his rescue, while the dumb money from the Phillies is likely the driving force for his market... I anticipate we will see a lot more of the opt-out clauses in contracts and for both Machado and Harper 'settling' on a 7yr contract with an opt out in 3 years (before age 30) could still get them another significant deal...

I could be talked into a 10 year deal for Machado. As others have said, he's certainly not prime ARod but he's still really good and has rarely missed time. He does come across as a jerk. I'd wager that over the course of the next decade, Machado will be more valuable than Harper.

Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports that the White Sox have discussed a deal with Manny Machado that would allow the team to exercise an option after year three that would trigger club control for an eighth or ninth year.

If the White Sox declined to exercise that option, Machado would have the opportunity to opt out of the deal after 2021. It's a similar contract stipulation that Yusei Kikuchi and Zach Britton agreed to, although with Machado it would obviously be on a much larger scale. All three players are clients of Scott Boras, who has referred to the unique contracts as a "swellopt" (meaning it's a "swell" option for both sides). Martino believes that if Machado might be amendable to this type of contract, it's possible the Yankees could jump back into the bidding.

This seems like the same type of thing as Arrieta's deal. Arrieta has a player opt out after 2019, but the Phillies can void the player option by exercising his 2021 and 2022 options. It could be a 2/55 deal if Arrieta opts out, a 3/75 deal if Philly declines the options AND Arrieta opts to stay, or 5/115 if Philly exercises the last 2 option years. I think this is a well structured contract for both sides. If he pitches very well the 1st 2 years, he could get $60 million over his age 34-36 seasons. If he pitches like crap, Philly has some level of protection.

Brewers should really get involved. I know that it'd be a huge stretch to the payroll, but imagine Machado at SS instead of Arcia!
