Oh...I am SOOO pissed off right now.

I bought a duplex in Milwaukee. Pretty much just a place for my little sister. I've also invested in some other properties, but I normally don't like dealing with the city of Milwaukee, so other than this one place, that's it.

I got a letter on May 24th about the length of the grass and how the hedges needed to be cut and they needed to be cut by.....the 23rd of May. So whatever, I'm expecting a fine of 250.

But it still needs to be cut, so I let her borrow a pickup truck, a lawnmower and a couple of other things.

Long story short, she takes the cab off of the pickup and she puts it up against the garage and she takes a tool box I have in the bed out and puts that up against the door of the garage. It's a 2006, so not a brand new truck, but a pretty nice one for what I use it for.

The city comes by and they TAKE the bed of the pickup and the toolbox WITH all the tools in it.

I call the city, they tell me that it was collected because it was an eyesore and had been sitting there for over 6 months. It'd been there for less than TWO days. And that's it. I try discussing it with them, arguing and I'm doing so in a calm and reasonable voice and they just hang up on me.

Jesus Christ....I'm just so annoyed right now. It's not like it's the end of the world, but they just came into my yard and took my stuff. It's just amazing. And the thing about the house is that you can't even see the garage from the road. It's behind the house and there are woods behind that for about 100 yards until there's a trail that runs along the river.

Anyone have ANY idea what the heck I'm supposed or can do about this?

Sounds like stolen property to me.

That's why I throw all my junk and old appliances in the BACK yard. :)

That is really crazy, since you just bought I am guessing you are getting spillover from poor maintenance from the previous owner. I don't know how they can take your stuff without notice but if they gave notice to the previous owner maybe your stuff just got thrown in with it. It can be tough to deal with big cities with that sort of stuff as it varies, Miami is a free for all where nothing is enforced, Minneapolis will tow your car if you leave it 5 seconds over the limit. The people you deal with are used to people trying to get out of stuff when they are guilty so people like you who got legitimately screwed get no hearing.

The city is putting a crazy amount of effort in to something totally pointless while there are literally thousands of much more serious violations being totally ignored because they're assuming they will get little pushback from you while they know those other violators will fight tooth and nail and they don't want to deal with them. That's just how local government works. In my town a couple years ago one woman threw a fit at city council meeting and because of her they passed an ordinance saying you can't grow vegetables in your front yard or whatever the city considers your front yard. I have no idea if this has ever actually been enforced but that they even wasted time discussing it is ridiculous.

I would contact the alderman for the district in which the house sits. Call them. then I would get a lawyer to write a letter to the city telling them to refund any fines, fees, etc. or you'll sue for lost wages due to not having a truck or something like that. If that doesn't work you call Tom Hooper at Contact 6 :)

No, the thing is I didn't just buy it. I bought it...I think 6 years ago. The only issue with maintenance has been my sister cutting the grass. Basically, if she doesn't have a boyfriend, it can get too long. She's a whole other headache. But I've gotten a few notices about that. The first time I paid a 50 dollar fine.

But I've never gotten a notice about having stuff in the yard and this was not in any way garbage, and it'd been there for just a couple days.

Speaking of the tickets, I've also had to pay a ton in parking tickets for my sister because she just can't be bothered to move the car(even though she has a garage and a driveway).

Honestly I can't believe the City of Milwaukee even cares about that. There are much more shady things that go on and I assume much more shady-looking properties all over the city...

That would have been my first thought. The problem is my sister can go from zero to...err...unpleasant REALLY quickly. And there is this lady who lives next to her that is in her 80's. All she does is watch, and where the house is, there's a park across the street and the river behind.

So when I bought it, I gave her and her son my number(kinda knowing she could be a problem and my sister wouldn't be very diplomatic).

So she's called a few times about the grass and since it's really hard to see the garage from anywhere but upstairs at her house, I'm sure she called and said it'd been sitting there for a while.

Hiandtight - I would lose my mind on that one! I'd threaten to sue them if it's not returned.

LOL...ahh...it's already in the garbage.

So....I'm just gonna complain about it for a while, tell my sister she owes me the money and I'm gonna include it in the rent that she SELDOM pays(she just charges the people below her more which she can't do) and take it with a grin :angry

At least I don't usually use the bed. In fact, it hadn't been on the truck for a while. I'd only had it on because of the recent rain and someone else had borrowed the truck and didn't want anything to get wet.

Anyway, I love this section of the board. No arguing, just others with whom we can commiserate with!

Bought my 6 year old a 2019 MLB coloring book featuring over 40 players from MLB.

2019. Over 40 players.

No Brewers. No Yelich.

Brock Holt got a page.

I feel like this is far more egregious than anything the city did to me. Brock Holt?

Being from Northern Wisconsin, I don’t get down to Milwaukee that often. After reading the OP’s conundrum, my first thought was ‘Is Milwaukee even that nice? Who cares about a tool box out front?’

This pales in comparison to HiAndTight's city of Milwaukee and sister woes, but now that Apple is about to phase out iTunes (and force people into paying monthly for Apple Music), I'm wondering how I'll retain the thousands of tracks currently in my iTunes account that did not originate as Apple purchases.

I know that Kids These Days just stream everything through their phones, but I'm pretty attached to the content on my iPod. My iTunes content is all on an older iMac that I suppose I could just keep for the music files (it's old enough to be upgrade resistant now), but that seems like an unnecessary reason to have an extra desktop sitting around.

I recently deleted about 50 gb of music, some of which I probably downloaded 15 years ago or more (Kazaa maybe?). After Spotify showed up there wasn’t a reason for it anymore. But now if someone took my Spotify playlists away...it was not easy to make new my personal “library”.

I so rarely get a weekend off, and now that I have one I can't think of anything I want to do and have just hung around the house. I'm becoming something of a hermit.

Now that I have a kid I prefer to just sit at home when I have a free minute. Ha.

These are really what external hard drives are made for :)

You could also transfer from itunes to Google Play if you wanted.

I’m pretty sure Apple’s Music app covers this.

confirmed:

from the USAToday network of papers today

"This change will occur automatically with the release of the next MacOS (code name Catalina) in fall 2019. Those that choose to install the updated OS will have their music, podcasts and TV shows transferred to each of the associated apps.

Playlists, smart playlists and music that you ripped from your CDs will all show up in the Music app. You’ll still be able to buy music from the iTunes Store, and iTunes gift cards will continue to work as they do today."
