What's bugging you? [2019]

I just moved into a new apartment - I won't even bother to explain how the weather over the past two weeks effected that effort.

I have a garage. There is a garage door opener in the garage. There seems to be no power to the garage and the door opener is not connected to the garage door.

I've never seen this before. I didn't think to check this before I rented. I just saw the opener and assumed.

Posters that say "late to the party" in threads.

Sorry I’m late to the party... But why does it bother you? ;)

It's just a dumb thing to say, that's all. I am a part of a number of message boards and there is always someone saying it. I think certain posters feel like they need to comment on every thread, even if they don't add anything to the conversation.

Rating kids on how fast they can read makes no sense to me. Reading comprehension is more important than how fast you can read. Not sure why schools would keep track of this.

Feels like this was rather useless when I was in school why is it still being tested and tracked now?

It’s bugging me that people can’t shovel or salt their walkways. People order things online to be shipped to their house, but are too lazy to create a walk space for people to deliver their items. This is all part of owning a house. Amazon also sells shovels and salt.

If the walkway is dangerous, do the itmes have to be delivered? That would teach them a lesson. No shovel, no delivery.

I'm home during the day so I can keep my sidewalks shoveled and salted. The vast majority of people can't because they are at work. I was just outside and my driveway and sidewalks are an ice skating rink. They weren't that way this morning. I feel bad for the mail carriers and FedEx/UPS people that are going to have to try and walk on these surfaces but there's nothing that can be done about it because all the freezing happened after people left for work.

The company I work for says they have "360" reviews. But I was not asked to provide feedback on anyone I worked with last year, and in the over two years I've been there (two annual reviews, two mid-year reviews) I've only been asked to provide feedback on a total of two people, and neither of them are my boss. (For reference, on average about 10 people are asked to provide feedback on me.)

The problem is if I don't deliver them because of the weather issues I just get it back the next day on top of what I will get for the current day. There are some real long driveways a quarter or half mile long that I won't deliver. Last week there were a couple houses that didn't get it for a few days. Most people that live that far back understand, but there are a few people that complain. These are the types of people that either don't plow at all, or if they do plow the driveway has hills and the snow drift onto them. They won't clean up their driveways after the inital plow. I find that the new homeowners either can't afford what it takes to remove snow or are totally oblivious to what it takes to own a home.

I can get up a little earlier in the morning to clean up my drive and walks. All it takes is a little effort to do it. How much time does it take to throw the salt out of the bucket. Twenty years of walking up to peoples houses 150 times a day I know when someone has made even the littlest bit of effort to throw some salt down. Some people can figure out how to remove the ice from the 3 foot patch where the dog lease is.

I'll walk up and someone will come to the door and say watch out its slippery there. Like, no S Sherlock.

Not to make this political... I've delivered 12 years all over the suburbs and 8 years in Milwaukee. Easily, in general terms, the people of the city of Milwaukee are much better at cleaning their walkways than the suburbs. I have a picture somewhere of a lady in her upper 70's-80's using her walker while pushing a shovel in front of her to clean her driveway. I kept a diary and photos in case I wanted to write a book.

I was visiting someone in the Chicago burbs and their was a community (like $400,000+ houses nice) that most people didn't clear their sidewalks. Could not believe it and I don't know how they allow such a thing when the Sherriff's department in that area constantly harasses anyone if they block the sidewalk with their car for a second.

And when I mean don't clear the sidewalks I mean never. They had a lot of snow and you honestly wouldn't know there was even a sidewalk if you weren't already aware. It looked weird when there was a rare person who actually did clear it.

Regarding the sidewalks, this last round of ice really cleared out the salt supply. Everyone on my street still has ice on the driveway (including myself.) Normally everyone is very diligent about this, but I looked again over the weekend and apparently all of Waukesha county is out of salt.

I live in Waukesha as well and yeah, many people in our neighborhood that are normally pretty diligent about clearing there driveways and sidewalks still have a sheet of ice covering them from last week. I was out of salt and went to Kwiktrip last week Wednesday, they were out. I then went to Sentry and they were out. I then called Ace hardware on Sunset and they said they had a small supply left but they were going fast. There were about 5 people in line when I got there and they were all buying salt. Fortunately, I was able to get 4 small bags.

Because of the thickness of the ice and the low temperatures, the salt only made the ice more "breakable". We still had to go out the next day and breakup the ice and shovel the broken pieces off the driveway and sidewalk.

I worked at a place once that decided to do upward reviews. Nobody really liked the boss and it was the first time she'd heard the negative feedback and she cried in front of everyone as she was apologizing for her behavior. It took less than 24 hours before she reverted back to her usual ways.

This baseball offseason has been terrible. Camps are opening soon and there are still so many unsigned free agents. This new labor market doesn't portend labor peace and the chance of a work stoppage seems pretty high.
