What's bugging you? [2019]

hawing

Dogs off leash in public parks sounds like not a big deal, but can be a big issue. We've had multiple dogs just run away (the coyotes get them eventually), dogs fighting with each other because they're not leashed, and dogs attacking people.

But someone complained that a Ranger made them put their "service dog" on a leash. Off leash is still a misdemeanor since we can't change that, but now our policy is that we're supposed to ask the person if it's a service dog, and any 'yes' reply means we don't require a leash. We're also not to question any 'yes' reply.

So basically no more leash law.

I help out with my family's business that is only open 6 weeks in September and October. Among many things, I answer all of the emails and handle the social media/promotion. The amount of donation requests we get are unbelievable. I received 15 today alone and most of them are just stupid.

What was the most ridiculous request?

That’s silly. I’m so sick of loose aggressive dogs where I live. We have a little dog and when we walk her different dogs (there is a ridiculous amount) come wanting a fight. I’ve found kicking gravel at them generally does the trick. But I’ve had to kick dogs and last night I had to peg one in the ribs with a rock. I’m sick of people being so stupid and lazy with their dogs. It’s only a matter of time and I’ll end up having to beat up some drunk idiot because came at me after they got pissed that I kicked their loose dog for attacking my leashed dog.

We donate a small balloon bunch to every charity that asks. We never give much because there are so many who ask if we gave much we'd end up needing the charity. Most people are perfectly fine with it but once in a while we get someone who either asks for more or only wants cash. I really hate it when they try to guilt you into a larger donation. Like somehow we don't care about sick children because we only gave a $10 valued gift for their auction. We give what we can but sometimes the sheer number of requests make it expensive.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

There was a mom that asked us to donate product so her adult son could sell it within miles of our business (basically competing with us). He wanted to save up for a vacation but didn't want to get a job. This person was not disabled by the way.

We donate A LOT and pretty much to any worthy cause. We don't really really promote it and it stings me when I hear that we make so much money from the local community.

I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around your example.

That would be the equivalent of a mother calling Best Buy to see if she could get some free iPads so that her able-bodied, adult son could sell them online to pay for his vacation. Am I understanding that correctly?

Sure are! They were puzzled when I said no...

On the Deer subject, kind of.

In July, my son, who is working in Montana, waiting to start Grad school in the fall, was driving his Saturn L200 and ran over a rock (on a road that car should not have been on I might add...grrrrrr), which cracked his oil pan. He didn't realize it at first, drove a mile down the road and discovered the oil leaking out. Long story short, the car being worth about $1800 pretty much totaled it out and it wasn't worth fixing. Car gone.

2 weeks later, he flew home to Wisconsin to pick up our 2010 Mercury Mariner. My wife and I decided that she would just get a new vehicle, and we'd give him a great deal on the Mariner. He was home for a grand total of one night, then started his 22 hour trip home. Another long story short, 3 hours from his house in Montana, he hit a freaking antelope at 70 mph. He was fine, but the Mariner was totaled. In the span of a little over 2 weeks, he totaled out 2 vehicles. We planned to drive the Mariner another 3 or 4 years since it only had 70K miles, so in the process, we purchased a new car for my wife so we could give our son the Mariner, and now he doesn't even have it. Car #2 gone.

He finally purchased his own vehicle, but in Montana, which means he can no longer be on our insurance, and has to get his own insurance since the car is titled in Montana under his own name.

A learning experience for a 23 year old who had a car that should have lasted him through grad school, and is now paying for his own car and insurance...

Sometimes life is just not fair.

Yikes! You can't come up with stories like that. Wow!

This is our third totaled car since May. Two used ones and the new one. Plus there were two other accidents in there since the beginning of the year. I'm sure if I biked to work, something would happen to that, too. LOL!

Wow, 3 totaled cars since May? Hopefully everyone is ok, man, that is tremendously bad luck...

Getting old. 11 days ago something in my knee tweaked when I was getting out of bed. It got stiff and sore but I was able to get around without any problem, figured it would heal up and be forgotten. Then I had to take a couple flights this week scrunched up in a Cessna 207. Now that knee is all swollen and sore and a genuine problem. I’m on the couch with my ice machine and thinking to myself- so this is the way it’s going to be now. Any time I move I am at risk of hitting the IL. Getting out of bed?? Good grief.

NBA team owners now being called Governors.

It's practically comical.

That was my reaction at first, but I guess it was at the behest of the players (and not the media / PC police). If you respect your employees, I think that’s a request you honor.

I have a few direct reports at work who refer to me as their manager. If they asked me to use a different term to describe my role (no matter how ridiculous) I’d probably honor their request because they are decent people and have always shown me an appropriate level of respect.

I needed something replaced on my car under warranty (PTU) and it has been two months....still backordered. Yet thousands of new cars, exactly the same, have probably rolled off the assembly line in that same span.

Of course I don't think that will even solve the problem I originally complained about (I think it is the rear dif.) so after waiting 3 or so months for this fix I will then just complain again and probably wait even longer for that.

I am glad it isn't something making the car undrivable and not something I have to pay for. I just try to make a joke out of it, because that is kinda what it is.

The Ryder Cup ticket buying process. Currently in a virtual line that hardly seems to be moving. I'm beginning to think I'm going to get shut out. Possibly the most ridiculous ticket buying experience I have ever experienced.

Based on this forum, looks like a lot of people got shut out

https://forums.golfwrx.com/discussion/1795335/2020-ryder-cup-random-ticket-selection-emails-being-sent-out/p4

There was a statement when the access code was received that due to high demand this did not guarantee that you will be able to purchase tickets. However, it seems like they gave out way too many access codes and the whole "virtual line" process was a colossal waste of time for most people. Some people actually sold their access code on Ebay...what a waste of money for the people who fell for that!
