What's bugging you? [2019]

hawing

I'm going to be bugged if any more of my student employees call in sick this short work week.

It also bugs me to imagine the sheer volume of "hindsight" jokes that people will be making a year from now. :rolleyes

Link to the most recent What's bugging you? thread, hopefully giving you one less thing to be bugged about:

Ice and snow will not melt on a section of my driveway and front sidewalk, no matter what. Over 40 today, nothing, just doesn't get any sun. My parents are coming over so I have to go salt it heavily.

I have a part of my driveway like that, and I have a pregnant wife, so I was hitting it with the ice pick thingy yesterday.

Of course it's the way it is because we had to drive over it for wedding stuff on New Years Eve...grr.

I have a driveway on the north side that gets no sun too. And my dad was complaining about it being slippery so I now too must salt heavily when they come over. Ha!

I went to a friend's party last night. He had tons of food based on how many people said they were coming (did a RSVP) but there were a huge amount of no-shows.

Why are people so rude that they do things like that? I get it if the weather is bad but it wasn't a consideration. I don't think he was too bothered about it because we had a good time but what a waste.

Don't get me started on those gutless people that say "maybe" on Facebook because they never show up and can't just say no.

It's a cultural thing. Saying "No" in the midwest is viewed as rude and people will do anything they can to avoid saying it. "I can't be there." is like this taboo thing to say.

My friends from New York call people out on this crap all the time (and I've started doing it too). We live busy lives, it's okay if it's not your thing or you can't be there!!

That's what's odd, because it's also a cultural thing in the Midwest to be polite.

From my experience in life, I find that for some reason, society, in general, is more annoyed with the person who points out another person being oblivious or rude than they are at the person who was actually oblivious or rude. This is why I really enjoy Larry David's brand of humor that puts a spotlight on this behavior. I could see this being a situation in "Curb your enthusiasm". Larry shows up at a party held by someone who did not bother to respond or show up to a gathering that Larry was hosting. Larry brings up the situation to the host at the party and everyone listening to the conversation gets upset with Larry.

I feel like something close to that did happen on Curb. But you're right. For example, try calling out someone for line cutting, and you're the one who will be seen as a big jerk.

Now I'm bugged there aren't any new episodes to watch...

Doesn't every region of the country THINK they're polite? Southern Hospitality, Northwest is kinda known for being hippy-ish and real polite, the Mid-West(which is really about 2/3rds of the states depending on where you're from).

I feel like the only people NOT concerned with being polite come from a small cluster in the Philly, NYC region. Not that they're rude, they just don't really care if you think they're polite.

People who always have an opinion about what other people should do. People saying Kyler Murray is an idiot and should have picked baseball. Maybe the guys dream is to play in the NFL? Maybe he sees that as a real possibility? Let the kid do what he wants. Or the bickering and fighting in Facebook comments section about whether or not Jayme Closs should testify in front of court. One lady reasoned, "I needed to face my abuser in court." acting like their situations or themselves are anywhere similar...one lady even said, "Let her do what she wants, she has my full support." How full of yourself do you need to be to think your support is needed or even relevant for such a decision?

I'm guessing some forum sites are not considered a region ;)

I can't stop listening to Chris Stapleton. Yes I know it is country but I just can't stop listening to him and it is bugging me.

A buddy of mine said the same thing, he sent me his albums digitally, I downloaded them but haven't listened yet.

He also is not a country guy at all, and neither am I, but for whatever reason, Stapleton hit a chord with him.

I like his version of Tennessee Whiskey better than the original. It sounds more like a blues song than a country song.

Meteorologists on television who say weather warning until 12:00 pm or 12:00 am. There is no 12:00 pm, only 12 noon or 12 midnight.

According to Webster 12pm is noon. I've always been told that as well. In fact I would argue that is correct. PM is post midday, and 12:00:01 is just that.

I have always understood 12 pm to be noon and 12 am to be midnight, but I believe Jimbo is technically correct.

I have a similar pet peeve about people saying "Central Standard Time" during daylight savings time, which is most of the year. The correct term here is "Central Daylight Time" or simply "Central Time." "Standard" actually refers to something, it is not just an empty filler word.

People using ear buds while shopping. I am at Publix today, walking in and some guy has himself between the entrance doors and he is wiping down his cart with those sanitary things, no one can get around him but he has no clue. Then I follow him to him the fruit section and he proceeds to sort through the 2 for 1 pineapple while 3 of us stood waiting, he could have stepped aside to give us room and continued his search for the perfect pineapple but the guy was oblivious to what was around him, completely tuning out the rest of the world. Just like texting and talking on cells this is the decline of western civilization, too many people living in their own worlds and not paying attention to what is going on around them.

I always thought 12pm = noon and 12am =midnight. But I am completely on board with CST vs CDT. I don't know why that distinction isn't taught in school.
