It's an above average salary for a DH but not a crazy number. Take the 15 players that had the most DH at-bats for their respective American League clubs, and the average 2018 salary for those players was 11.66 million. Median number was 11 million. And those numbers ignore some other financial considerations. These figures do not account for a 6 million dollar signing bonus that was given to Salvador Perez (yes, led KC last year in DH at-bats) and a 5 million dollar signing bonus that was given to Edwin Encarnacion. Also does not account for things like the 20 million dollar posting fee to acquire Shohei Ohtani.

It's probably fair to say the going rate for a good DH these days is 12+ million.
