The trade of Jurickson Profar from Texas to Oakland is part of a three-way deal that includes the Tampa Bay Rays, league sources tell Yahoo Sports. The A’s will send prospect Eli White to the Rangers and the 38th overall pick in the 2019 draft, plus RP Emilio Pagan, to TB.

The Rays will send lefty Brock Burke, a favorite among scouts, to Texas. At least three other minor leaguers are involved, sources tell Yahoo Sports, but the core deal: Jurickson Profar to the A’s, Brock Burke and Eli White to the Rangers, 38th pick and Emilio Pagan to the Rays.

Profar is going to the Rays.

Profar is the only piece headed to the Rays, per Passan. The A’s will receive Oakland’s Competitive Balance pick, reliever Emilio Pagan (from Oakland) and minor league lefty Rollie Lacy (from Texas). The Rangers, meanwhile, will acquire minor leaguers Brock Burke, Eli White, Kyle Bird, Yoel Espinal and international bonus allotments.

That's a fun trade, I can see how all 3 teams would like the trade. I am a bit surprised by how much Oakland gave up to acquire Profar. This feels like the equivalent of us giving up Stokes, Taylor Williams, and a comp pick. Stokes isn't a perfect example as he's an OF, but it's the closest we have.

This looks weird. The A's seem to be receiving a lot of their own stuff...

I haven't heard the amount of the international bonus pool is heading from Tampa Bay to Texas.

Really hard to judge this trade because what number does one put on Profar? He was basically a worthless player prior to 2018.

But just glancing, the Rays appeared to have given up 3 fringe prospects and some of their international bonus pool, got one fringe prospect back, a comp A pick and a marginal MLB reliever. This seems like a pretty good move for them.

Whoever it is, remember when he was the top rated prospect in baseball or at least among the top with Trout, Moore and others? I'm just going off memory, but I do remember he was exected to be not just a good player, but a great, cant miss type guy.

At his age, and a nice resurgence last year, I would definitely be buying high on Profar if I was either the Rays OR the A's.

Will be interesting to see if he does become the next Phil Nevin. Nevin was the first overall pick and was horrible until he got to his age 28 season. Had three good seasons and then was really mediocre again. Time will tell.
