Daniel Descalso to Cubs

I guess I don't know why he would be a thorn in the Brewers side? Last season was an anomaly for his stat line and overall in his career against the Brewers, he carries a .218/.307/.318/.625 batting line. I mean, that is backup catcher territory trash.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I remember reading something about a change in his swing and approach at the plate leading to last year's improvement, and that it is repeatable. But how many times have you read something like that, and it ends up not meaning a thing, though? Hopefully he reverts back to the light-hitting scrub he's always been.

Well any Cubs backup is likely to be a thorn in the Brewers. He's been pretty decent getting on base the last 3 years. Possibly he's been able to handle inconsistent playing better as he matures. He seems a bit better than Perez, but at twice the cost (this year anyway).

Seems like a fine pick up for only $5 million. He’s better than LaStella (assuming that’s who’s role he’s taking). Though some seem to think this could lead to a sequence of moves to clear money for Harper like moving Zobrist now or attaching Happ to a bad contract. Since Descalso/Zobrist/Happ are all somewhat similar versatile players.

Must have misread the contract details. At 5/2 (including buyout) or 7.5/3, he'll be cheaper than Perez. Makes it a much better deal for the Cubs.

I read that as well, Descalso was exactly what I was looking for. Another versatile LH bat on a cheap contract who is able to hold down 2B until Hiura is up in June/July. Hate to say it but this was a good gamble by the Cubs.

The Brewers can and will do better than Descalso. I think it's going to be longer than till June/July too. Hiura isn't Ted Williams. Give him some time.

Descalso was signed to replace La Stella in 2019, and maybe help make up for loss of Zobrist beyond that. He's a solid bench, utility guy coming off his best year so they didn't get him particularly cheap. He also gives them some protection if they deal either Happ or Schwarber for their critical area of need, relief pitching.

As for his utility value, he's not as versatile as Perez. He can't play SS and has very limited OF experience. He does work AB's better but I'm not sure he's any better a hitter than Hernan who has higher career BA (.256 to .240) and SP (.388 to .370).
