Rangers sign Tim Dillard to minor league deal

I love Dillard, and it would have been great to see him remain with the organization. I'm not going to begrudge him for continuing to chase his dream. The Rangers are pretty poor talent-wise, so it isn't out of the realm of possibility that if Dillard puts together a decent stretch, he could see MLB time again in 2019.

It is my hope that once he does decide to hang up his spikes for good, the Brewers find a spot for him in the organization and welcome him back with open arms. I'd love to see him get into broadcasting more. There is still room for fun and humor in the broadcast booth.

The Rangers AAA team is now based in Nashville, which is where Tim and his family live full time. Pretty easy to connect the dots actually. He's got two little kids, and I imagine that him spending 8 months out of the year in Arizona and Colorado Springs over the last few years has been rough on them.

Has to be in some sort of PR/coaching capacity, right? Disappointed to see him go, but if he can still collect a check playing baseball, good for him.

The beat writers are saying it's because the Rangers new AAA affiliate is Nashville, where Dillard lives. They also all expect him back with the Brewers when his playing days are over.

From what I gather from his interviews and a chat I had with him at Miller Park in 2016 he wants one more crack and pitching in the big leagues pretty badly. Maybe this is his last ditch effort and if it doesn't work out with the Rangers he hangs them up and comes back to the Brewers in some sort of non playing role.

There is a chance Dillard could play in Miller Park again. The Rangers will be bad and likely trading any assets they have at the trade deadline so will need to call up some guys to eat innings late in the season and the Rangers play the Brewers August 9-11.

The entire front office should be fired for letting Dillard go somewhere else.

Really? Easy there. I’m sure he can return to the organization after he hangs it up. He is closer to home, and there was less need for him to mop up in blowouts. It’s a good move for him personally.

I love Dillard and hope we trade Yelich and Hader for him so we can bring him home.

I wouldn't trade both of them.

It's close, If the Rangers included a pair of tickets to Six Flags, I think the Brewers would trade both of them.
