Another 2B goes off the board. Glad someone got Kinlser, as I didn't want him on our team. He was a good player, but at 36, his glove and bat have declined too much.

I'd agree, speed was a decent part of his game...as at peak he was a 20/20 guy despite a lower batting avg than you'd like. He actually even had a 30/30 season. His defense at 2b is still very good and he's been remarkably healthy, but i wouldn't count on better than 700 OPS out of him at this point. 700 OPS is basically Perez, so unless you can beat that...it's not a value added move.

The Padres make no sense to me. Are they in? Are they out? What does this signing do for them?

The Padres are building up to contending. It's a slow, incremental process. They probably also think Kinsler can provide veteran leadership.

Contending doesn't happen overnight. Incremental increases.

I wasn't real keen on Kinsler. OK defensively, but the bat hasn't been great for awhile. Probably not much of an improvement at this point in his career than trotting Saladino out there every day.

I'm still thinking we'll see one of Murphy, LeMahieu, Lowrie, Dozier or Dietrich ... maybe Marwin Gonzalez if they want to pony up for a multi-position guy.

This was a bummer, really wanted him on a 1 year deal to bridge the gap to Hiura. I hope they now turn to Dozier, if he can be had on a 1 year deal, but I feel if Kinsler got 2 years, Dozier can get more than 1. Murphy could be had on a 1 year deal I think, but he is a lefty bat. Think they should look for a righty for 2B.

I would love Marwin Gonzalez, get him to play 2B this year and then super utility guy once Hiura is up. But he will be more costly. LeMahieu would be okay, but he probably gets more than a 1 year and is only a 2B.

I actually think we should be looking for LH or switch at 2b. Braun, Cain, Aguilar, Pina, Arcia...all RH. Yelich doesn't really have splits, if anythign he's better against LH pitching as well. That leaves Shaw as really our only LH hitter, so adding one at 2b would make sense. Also a majority of our PH options are RH. Perez, Kratz/likely backup catcher, Santana/Broxton. We really should be looking at a LH or switch at this spot. Daniel Murphy fits like a glove.

Depends on the day. Seems like they've done a decent job of stocking their farm system but then do pointless things like grossly overpaying for multiple years of an average at best 1B and now give multiple years to a washed up veteran who plays the same position as their top prospects.
