Scooter Gennett for 2019?

Not a playoff contending team. Having Gamel and Perez this year to defensively fill positions has been awesome. Couple that with Pina as a backup/defensive catcher. Stearns has done a great job in that department in my eyes.

I'm not so sure the Reds wouldn't simply hang on to Gennett. He's hit 50 homeruns in nearly 300 games with the Reds to go with with an OBP of .350 and SLG% of .508; they could extend him the qualifying offer. Then they'd get an early comp pick as opposed to some middling prospects that typically accompany a rental player coming off a major injury. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Gennett accepted a QO from the Reds to rebuild value.

Another team would have to sign him and I highly doubt someone signs Gennett with a draft pick associated with him. I also don't see the Reds offering him that and risking him signing that QO. Gennett wouldn't be worth about $20m for a single season.
