New Guys on the Power 50

Hey Everyone,

Not sure if this has been started in another thread or not, but I'm real interested to find out just where Rogers fits into the current Power 50. I see him fitting in right around 9-12. I could be wrong here but he seems to fit here very nicely seemingly having more upside than JDLR and a little behind Parra and Jones at this point. Maybe Toby can tip us off on his thoughts?? Also where do you guys seeing some of the other newbies fitting in? Salome, Wahpepah, Sollman, LeClerq? Gallardo when he signs? Let everyone know your thoughts.

I think Toby said that he'll include them in the Power 50 only when they sign. So Salome, Wahpepah and Baker could be in the next installment. But we'll have to wait (for now) to see where Rogers or Gallardo match up.

I agree with Rogers as top15, but with the strength and depth of the minors (despite the struggles of the AA crew), it'll be hard to crack the Power 50, let alone debut at a high rank.

I'm sure our top 5 picks will debut on the Power 50 on merit alone. Everyone else might be a bit of a stretch, although I think LeClercq will be the Corey Hart/Steve Moss of this draft. He could break the Power 50 on his athleticism alone.

I think low ceiling guys like Sollmann, much like Heether discussed on the minor league thread, is going to have to earn his keep, although Toby does appreciate gritty guys that know how to get on base, such as Tommy Carrow & Drew Anderson. Stephen Chapman could make the list as well, just given the lack of true corner outfielders in our system, although I'm guessing he too is going to have to prove his worth.

Salome might have to prove his worth a little bit as well. While he had a huge year at the plate, he seems rather raw. I wouldn't be surprised to see him struggle with a wood bat at Arizona and/or Helena this year & next.

Brian Opydyke was a 4th rounder (Salome was a 5th) who has a year under his belt in the organization and he is around 40th...I wouldn't think Angel Salome could be higher even though a lot of people here have already fallen in love with him as a player.

on a side note:

Im very interested to see if Chapman signs and how he performs and Im definatly impressed that the team was able to sign LeClercq so fast after being consideded tough to draw away from his IU Hoosier commitment.

Yeah, you would hope the Brewers' scouts did their homework on the top 20 guys. I know I read that Wahpepah (who was a DFE for the Tigers that they couldn't sign) was thought to be seeking supplemental-2nd round money, and he signed quick. It's nice to see Baker and LeClerq in the fold quickly as well.

With regard to the P50, I think that outside of Rogers and Gallardo who get credit for being 1st/2nd rounder, it would be hard to immediately justify top 30 billing for any of the other draftees until they have a few weeks of Rookie ball.

I pretty much agree except for in the case of Baker, who's much more of a known commodity than the other players we took early.
