Will Carroll Brewers tweet

Outlander

Will Carroll, who I follow on Twitter, made a rather vague Brewers tweet a couple of days ago:

Absolutely no idea what the Brewers are thinking. None.

When questioned he followed it up with:

Sometimes you have to give a wake up call. If I was still an active journalist, I’d have a story.

Now those that follow Carroll know he isn't exactly one to break free agents signing, non tenders or what not. His handle is injuryexpert and he tweets often about injuries. Just curious if anybody else here has inside information or what he could possible be talking about. Is it concerning an injured player like Nelson or Suter? Seems like it could be a big story if one of the guys covering the Brewers did some digging.

If he isn't, then why do we care what he's saying?

It sounds more like he got fired than it does that he knows anything...

Or he's referencing his past experience as a journalist - where there's a story you dig into it and report it regardless of it being good or bad for an organization. It's rather straight forward what he was saying

Wasn't Will Carroll a leading "expert" in MLB drug testing and a huge supporter of Braun being railroaded by MLB and being totally innocent of PED allegations?

From what I recall he was supportive of the reason Braun got off in the first place - chain of custody. I don't think he ever said Braun was innocent.

And Carroll's tweet referenced above seems like an attempt at getting attention. It's like the posters here who say "I have inside info but I can't divulge it."

I don't find Will Carroll to be a credible "journalist" and would not put any credence in any statement he made.

His most famous "scoop" in 2003 was that Pete Rose was about to be reinstated to baseball and would become eligible for the hall of fame.

I bought his book "Saving the Pitcher." It came out in 2004 and extolled the virtues of Mark Prior's amazing mechanics and training regimen that would protect him from future injury. Of course, we all know how that turned out.

I also can't stand that kind of garbage tweet. They provide no information that can be verified as true, and yet they get to sound edgy and in the know. Worthless!

Considering Carroll's background (injury expert with no actual medical training), comments about the Brewers would likely have to do either with something going on in Nelson's rehab OR Motus attempting to sell the Brewers a whole bunch of stuff and Attanasio/Stearns not being interested.

He sounds like a guy who has enough industry contacts that he could have some tidbits of info. Typical sports fans could care less about the Brewers so I would actually guess somebody shared some seemingly relevant info, but he's not confident enough in the source to repeat it. If he was solely looking for attention he wouldn't have tweeted about the Brewers.

I'm going with the Brewers having a large contract offer on the table for Eovaldi...... Or, maybe in some wierd scenario, have actually discussed trading Yelich

I tend to think it's ridiculous $ for Corbin.... 5 years for 100 plus

I ask again - why do we care what he's saying? By his own admission, he's not an active journalist, and there's no reason to believe that he knows a thing of interest.

Yeah...I’m going to go on a limb here and say Yelich will be a brewer opening day 2019...

I think the majority of this board didn't think we needed OF help last off-season (myself included) but I can say with 100% certainty, we would not have been in the playoffs without Yelich and Cain. No way, no how.

Either he is vastly overestimating the relevance of his information or this goes beyond talks with a free agent. Unless something was imminent, the Brewers talking to a free agent, even one who seemingly doesn't make sense for them, is part of a notes package anywhere but Milwaukee.

This seems like either a weird trade that is being discussed or something non-transaction related.

Obviously it’s pretty difficult to discern what he is referencing, but based on his second comment, “sometimes you have to give a wake up call”, I don’t think it has to do with a possible free agent acquisition. Just total speculation on my part, but my guess is that it isn’t something related to player acquisition. Maybe it’s something related to training methods, player development, or the turnover in the athletic training area. Again, just speculation.

It does seem a little strange and reckless to send those tweets with no additional context.

Not just “at Night” anymore.
