Brewers Interested in Anibal Sanchez

Per Jon Morosi...

"The Brewers also are involved in the pitching market and have interest in free agent Anibal Sanchez, according to sources. Sanchez, who turns 35 in February, has pitched out of the bullpen but experienced a renaissance while starting for the Braves last season, posting a 2.83 ERA in 136-2/3 innings."

2019 version of Wade Miley? Sanchez had a good year last year, but would have to think it as being a total fluke considering how horrible he was the previous 3 seasons. I would definitely not project him to maintain the .255 BABIP or 11.2% HR/FB ratio that he posted in 2018.

Makes sense as a versatile guy who can go multiple innings and shouldn't cost a whole lot relative to the value he provides.

Seems to me, that would be the other Wade Miley of 2018 more than the Wade of 2019 no?

He already pulled a Wade Miley last year.

This feels like we called and checked in. I don't think there's much to see here yet other than it's a need in our price range and we've probably called to check price.

More interesting they are looking a fringe pitching options with so many internal candidates. You would think if they looked at pitching it would be more high end.

Not if some of those internal options are on the trade block.

Sanchez pitched one of the best games against the Brewers all season in Miller Park. 6 2/3 IP. 2 Hits, 1 Run, 1 BB, 8 Ks and just 82 pitches. He found something last year. Might be a nice value in the short term. All the young guys still have options or could be dealt.

OMG a rumor. This will probably end up being nothing, but I think this is the first Brewers connection we've seen this off season.

An inexpensive veteran starter who could be more than an innings eater makes some sense. Since none of the internal options are LHP someone like Derek Holland might make more sense, but it's early.

They probably don't see him as a fringe option just like Miley didn't end that way somehow.

I feel like too much is being made of this report. We probably simply called to check price. We also probably called to check price on Harper and Machado. It could be as little as simple due diligence, it could also be more...but nothing that's been reported tells me it's anything more than due diligence.

Just did a quick glance on Fangraphs. Not sure how much to believe in the pitch type numbers but according to what they have he added (or just decided to use more) a cutter. Anybody follow the Braves enough to know if he's modified his pitch selection?

Anyway, could be this year's version of Chacin.

Hence why I said it was interesting.
