Miller Park Hotel

rickh150

I've been waiting for this to develop for some time. I would think that for the amount of fans that are concentrated in the area for Brewers game for roughly 80 plus nights a year, that alone would be enough to get a hotel close to the Miller Park.

A few other thoughts...

The Packers and Bucks have hotels extremely close to the field/forum.

Most baseball stadiums have hotels within walking distance to the stadium.

With the amount of extra activities going on year round at the stadium (meetings, conventions, weddings, etc..... you'd be surprised at how many events are held there compared to 10 years ago), an attached hotel to the stadium via sky walk would make sense.

The Brewers have several fans traveling plus one hours to the game. Add that to the amount of alcohol consumed, I'd say many would enjoy a walk to the hotel instead of the long car ride home.

Interested in why this couldn't happen... enough crap hotels make it work when seasons are slow and weekdays have nothing notable happening. I'd like to see the Brewers looking to make more money around the stadium like the Cubs and Cards. I realize it can't be the same but something small and smart would be nice for the bottom line and fan experience

I have been saying this for years. The location would seem to have promise as it is centrally located, regardless of the Brewers. The biggest problem I see would be integrating a connected stadium into the design. Putting it near home plate / Helfaer Field would probably be preferred, but would look rather odd. Based on how the stadium is placed on the property, it would be difficult to put any hotel in rightfield due to the road / VA being so close. My guess is they could do something on the footprint of their player / employee parking lot just outside Right-center field. Their employees and guests could park underground. I heard there were plans to put a development by the sausage house in the lot they are now using for Uber rides, but that was about 10 years ago during the real estate collapse. And that location isn't as interesting as being attached to the stadium.

I always thought something like this would have been a great idea for the land east of the stadium in the Menomonee Valley. That won't happen now that there are a few businesses that built up there in the past several years.

I've wondered this same thing for many years now. You see all of these retail/hotel/entertainment developments that are going up around professional stadiums across america (Lambeau is a local example, and of course the Bucks are planning their own around FF). I've often wondered why Attanasio couldn't buy some of that land in the Menomonee Valley to build a big entertainment/hotel development there. You already have Potowattami down the road, and I just think it would make so much sense to turn much of that land into an entertainment district. With that said, I know much of it is developed now with businesses, so it's probably not happening at this point.

Maybe those people don't drink. I'd rather drive home than spend $100 on a hotel room.

Maybe those people don't drink or don't get ****-faced. I'd rather drive home than spend $100 on a hotel room.

This is a strange response. Obviously, fans wouldn’t be required to get a hotel room and could choose to drive home…

I seem to recall talk of a Brew Pub being built near the river when Miller Park was in the planning stages but they wanted the city to pay for it and the mayor at the time didn't think the city should be building bars. With Potowatomi building their big hotel I doubt the Brewers will be doing anything similar.

Well they intentionally built in a space to accommodate tailgating with all the open space, so it doesn't surprise me that there isn't development around it. that said, I stayed at a hotel this year that was walkable, probably about 20 mins or so. Just some generic mediocre chain, I don't remember which. also, Poto now has the hotel and that's very convenient.

I know the space to the southwest is owned by Veterans Affairs. Would it make sense to put it where the wooded area lies (I think workshops are there)? You could then put a sky walk from the hotel to Miller Park. I really like the idea of using Miller Park for Weddings, business functions, etc. The location of the hotel would be ideal.

It seems like the new development/hotel in West Allis is essentially taking the place of this. It probably makes more economic sense to be closer to year-round residents.

Even cities with 'downtown' stadiums don't always have hotels next to the stadium. It's easier to take transit or an uber.

No it's not because the hotel would probably cater mostly to people who don't want to drive back home after a game. If people would rather just drive home, the hotel won't be successful. If I was coming from Madison or Green Bay or wherever I would drive as far as I could, hoping I could get home but stopping somewhere a lot closer so I wouldn't have to make the 1-3 hour drive the next day.

I think a hotel in the parking lot would cater to people that would not want to drive home. And I'm also assuming there are at least 100 - 200 drivers per home game that would choose to do that. It might also be a neat place to stay for people coming in for a whole series. I think there are already plenty of people who come in from Wausau, Eau Claire, etc. that stay overnight in a hotel.

The problem is so many hotels offer free shuttles and they aren't hard at all to do. What is the point of a hotel in walking distance? Not sure you guys realize the price of a hotel if they dropped one in the parking lot. Unless you are stupidly rich you would find one out in Brookfield with a shuttle or just call an Uber. Don't get me wrong, it would be cool...but the price would likely make our dreams not so dreamy.

That you don't have to take a shuttle?

I don't think they would ever do it but I can see people wanting that experience and being willing to pay for it. Particularly if they sell package deals that include things like swag, stadium tours, seats, etc.

So you think people will pay $200 to avoid a shuttle after likely driving hours to get to Milwaukee?

Depends on the quality of the hotel, but you are taking at least $100 more than a normal hotel in the area. If you stay by the airport usually $200 more is probably pretty accurate.

Yes, they can drive hours to Milwaukee and be at the hotel and the baseball game at the same time. I only live a hour or so away in Madison but would love to go to a Saturday night game, sleep in Sunday and walk to the ballpark for the Sunday afternoon game.

The Best Western Milwaukee-West is a 15 minute walk from the RF entrance to the stadium. You could do that already :)

You guys are thinking about how YOU would do it. Plenty of people could walk 20 minutes (or take a free shuttle) and get free parking up near Bluemound but they would rather pay $20 and park close to the stadium even if they don't tailgate. There are people that don't want to walk 15 min to a hotel. . They want to walk 5 min and they don't want to stay at a Best Western. Give them a brew pub in the lobby and it's basically like the tailgate never ends.

Not to mention the novelty of it.

Yes there would be a market for it. One train of thinking people brought up in this thread is due to the prime location it will $200 or significantly more than elsewhere in MKE. Need to think of it the other way around, if they're charging that much and selling it out that means there was enough of a market to justify it. Will you me or joe schmo we know do it, who knows. But if it's always sold out even though they're charging more than the ones 3 miles away, well then it worked (assuming they fill it enough in the offseason as well).

Personally I think they'd sell it out every weekend if it was there. I take Poto as an example as I'm a frequent customer there. They charge more on home weekends (and generally more than normal hotels) and oftentimes I'll call just in case I want to stay over, but they're always sold out so I move onto other spots. so if they're doing it, I'd be shocked if one even closer wouldn't work.

I park on the streets southwest of the stadium for day games... don't feel comfortable with the walk back to the car on night games so I just park in the gen. lot.

Who does this?

We pretty much killed any chance of a cool atmosphere around the park when we put it where we did. It’s a weird spot when there isn’t baseball being played. It is dead come the offseason. I wish there were nice bars around it and a hotel etc...but there isn’t and I really doubt there will ever be.

What is in it for the Brewers here? They aren’t going to make much money and does it really add anything the the experience? I mean...no, not really. It isn’t a game changer. You know what would be better? Food that doesn’t taste like dog poop. Adding to the tailgate experience would also be way more effective.

A hotel right next to the stadium would add to the experience for many.

I agree on the hotel. Yes the occupancy would be pretty weak in the offseason but they could probably sell out a 100 room hotel for 81 games a year plus there will be some other events that will draw people in as well.

Obviously though if the Brewers or a Developer thought it made financial sense this would have already gotten done in the last 17 years.
