What would it take to get you to trade Yelich?

In light of the absurd offer of Syndergaard and Nimmo for Christian Yelich, I figured I'd ask this.

Every player DOES have his price.

For me, if the Mets wanted Yelich, they'd have to package Syndergaard, deGrom, Jeff McNeil, Nimmo, AND Michael Conferto, plus all their international bonus slots.

Is this meant to be serious?

I sometimes don't know when you post things like this...

Semi-serious.

Yelich is as close to untouchable as you can get... but at the same time, if someone were to tell you, "Name the price for Yelich," what would you demand?

I take this as more of a fun exercise than anything realistic. The odds of Yelich getting traded are about the odds of David Stearns winning a batting title next year.

That said, I can't imagine even considering moving him unless we are getting Vlad. He is so far ahead of every other prospect in baseball, he has future MVP written all over him. I would probably also consider Jimenez if other good secondary pieces were coming over. If it was Yelich for vlad, we would likely have very few secondary pieces coming. Probably a couple guys somewhere in their top 30, but probably only one other back end of their top 10 guys. If it was Jimenez, add in Cease, Dunning and someone interesting in the back end of their top 30. It is quite amazing how much his value has gone up with his ridiculous 2nd half of 2018.

This might be a more serious conversation in 2020, but right now it isn't a real conversation...but still fun.

Would you trade Yelich for Trout straight up?

Yes, I would. Even though it would be 2 years of Trout for 4 years of Yelich. I think Trout would hit 55 HR's a year playing half his games in Miller Park plus 9 games in Cincy etc

The David Stearns era: Controllable Young Talent. Watch the Jedi work his magic!

For sure

Trout

Arenado

Lindor

Maybe

Ohtani

Corey Seager

Walker Buehler

Vlad Jr.

*Hate the Red Sox, so I would never trade for Mookie.

Are you taking control into account? No way I'd trade 4 years of Yelich for 1 year of Arenado.

I was taking in age and the position they play. Didn't take into consideration contract. You're right, there would be no way I'd trade for Arenado taking contract into play.

Regardless of control, I would never trade Yelich for a guy who has ridiculous career home/road splits like Arenado does playing in Coors. His career away numbers would basically be a solid hitting starting third baseman, still really good, but not even very close to an MVP candidate. Of course his defense is great, but still...

Simply stated... Yelich is untouchable. He is the perfect fit for Miller Park and there is not one player on any Major/Minor league roster that I would consider. Milwaukee/the state of Wisconsin needed a hero and we went out and got a good/great one.

Alright, so I'm offering you Lindor, Jose Ramirez, and Corey Kluber for Yelich.

Exactly. Remember baseball is a business not a fantasy league and you don't deal the guy who'll be in the forefront of the marketing campaign for 2019 and beyond.

Why can't you? The players received would be just as marketable. Yelich is really...really....REALLY good. That being said he is nowhere near untouchable. He is not an elite talent, by elite I mean Harper (when on), Trout, Pujols prime, and so on. He is not anywhere near a generational talent.

The proposals just to prove every player has a trade away price, are just absurd. Basically offering to tank with Yelich and hand an All-Star squad to play with, when in truth the proposals would be prospects more than likely. That is how we got Yelich. That is how Realmuto will be acquired. Cleveland wont be offering Kluber to get him. The Mets wont be offering Degrom or Syndergaard to get him.

Give me prospect proposals/ or guys who've played less than 400PAs/100IP. And we'll get a serious discussion. Yelich at this time I couldnt trade him. What's the rush? He makes the ML team better. What Prospects are you going to offer me that improve my 2019 ML team?

The proposals were in direct response to a statement that there isn't a player in MLB that they would trade Yelich for, so yes, relevant responses in that context.

The point is this is a fruitless exercise. He's not going anywhere. If as you say, he's not a generational talent, though he was by far the best hitter in the NL in 2018 which makes your point arguable, then why would a team give up a generational talent for him?

Yelich is on track (though it's very early) for a Hall of Fame career. He's got 26.2 wins above replacement before his 27th birthday. He'll be a Brewer for a while thankfully and speculation as to who he could be traded for is just noise.
