Jake Hager reminds me that I am fascinated by the Rays 2011 draft in which they had 10 selections in what was considered the “1st Round” (it included the regular 1st round and supplemental 1st round). There were a few good selections by other teams sprinkled in-between the Rays draft picks and they definitely hit on Blake Snell towards the end of the round, but Tampa also had a lot of picks early in that draft that didn’t pan out: 2011 MLB Draft 1st Round. The MLB Draft is obviously such a crapshoot as it is, but maybe nothing illustrates that better than a team with 10 picks in the first 60 selections that basically went 1-for-10 on those draft picks.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

Ahhhh yes, the good old 2011 draft, when we passed on Jose Fernandez, Sonny Gray, Trevor Story, Michael Fulmer, and yes Blake Snell to take Taylor Jungmann. Ugh.

Every team but the marlins would have passed on fernandez because he basically said it would be the only team he would sign with if drafted out of high school. Besides, I dont think he is winning Cy Youngs any time soon...

You can handpick 10 players from just about every draft that make just about every team look dumb for not taking them.

Depth is always nice to have.

Considering Orf, Saladino, Miller, Schoop, Villar, and Sogard all got playing time last season - you can always use depth.

Also, remember, Hernan Perez is due for his second year of arbitration in 2019. He's going to get expensive (relative to his production), and a guy like Hager may have a chance to make the team in 2020.
