2018-2019 Offseason / Spring Training Archived Media Thread

Mass Haas

Due to personal reasons, I had to regrettably abandon the regular season archived media thread in August.

Maintaining another offseason thread, as was done last year, should be easier, and unless big breaking news happens (see last January 25th), there's less pressure to be super-timely as you'll see below, all these discussions are still relevant as of the end of Game Seven of the NLCS, and worth your time.

So here we go, if any links are incorrect, please let us know in this thread, and also always feel free to add links that may have been missed.

Sunday October 21st:

AUDIO via Matt Pauley's Brewers Extra Innings Podcast: "The season comes to an end in Game 7 of the NLCS with a loss to the Dodgers. On this week's episode, we look back at the NLCS and try to put in perspective how impressive the Brewers' late-season run was. Brew Crew Ball Managing Editor Kyle Lesniewski joins the program and gives his thoughts on the team's run through the playoffs."

AUDIO via the Milwaukee Tailgate Podcast: "The Los Angeles Dodgers outlast the Milwaukee Brewers in game seven of the NLCS. Steve, Ryan and J.P. discuss the final two games of the series and what the difference was between going to the World Series and heading home for the offseason."

AUDIO via the Journal-Sentinel Brewers Podcast: "Beat reporter Tom Haudricourt joins host JR Radcliffe to look back at the end of the 2018 season, a Game 7 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS. What elements stood in Milwaukee's path to the World Series, and which players truly rose to the occasion? It's not a full-fledged look at the offseason yet, but what are the most intriguing storylines ahead for this ballclub?"

Sunday October 28th:

AUDIO via Matt Pauley's Brewers Extra Innings Podcast: "The Brewers season has now been over for more than a week. We continue to look back at the special year for the 2018 Brewers but we also start to shift some of the focus to 2019. Kyle Lobner joins Matt as he gives his take on the 2018 season and what changes he would like to see going into next year."

AUDIO via the Milwaukee Tailgate Podcast: "Steve and J.P. are joined by Curt Hogg, and they discuss the beginning of the Milwaukee Brewers offseason. The team has decisions to make about Mike Moustakas, Jonathan Schoop, and what role Chase Anderson will play in the rotation moving forward."

AUDIO via the Journal-Sentinel Brewers Podcast: "Brewers beat reporter Todd Rosiak joins host JR Radcliffe to discuss which players who should be back in 2019, and which players will be moving on. Among those discussed: Mike Moustakas, Jonathan Schoop, Erik Kratz, Chase Anderson, Xavier Cedeno, Dan Jennings, Matt Albers, Stephen Vogt and Eric Thames. Also, what are Craig Counsell's chances for Manager of the Year? Todd had a vote!

Speaking of Craig Counsell, JR is joined by former Brewers third base coach Rich Donnelly, who is the subject of a book released in early October, "The Chicken Runs at Midnight." The story relates to the 1997 World Series, when Craig Counsell scored the winning run for the Florida Marlins. The moment fulfilled a prophecy of sorts, bringing to life a phrase coined by Donnelly's late daughter, Amy."

Sunday November 4th:

AUDIO via Matt Pauley's Brewers Extra Innings Podcast: "Brewers fans were caught off guard this past week when the Reds hired away pitching coach Derek Johnson. Given a lot of credit for the solid Brewers pitching, it appears this could have a major impact on the 2019 Brewers. How much of a setback is this for the club? Matt explores that and continues to look at all the off-season decisions that have been made so far. Brew Crew Ball's Brad Ford is the featured guest and shares his thoughts about the off-season so far."

AUDIO via the Milwaukee Tailgate Podcast: "Ryan is back this week, and he joins Steve and J.P. in handing out their Milwaukee Brewers awards for the 2018 season. The guys give their picks for Most Improved Player, Rookie of the Year, Cy Young and MVP. They also discuss the recent shake up with the coaching staff and especially the surprise that Derek Johnson decided to leave the team for the Cincinnati Reds."

AUDIO via the Journal-Sentinel Brewers Podcast: "Sentinel writer Curt Hogg offers some early projections for the 2019 Brewers season and breaks down some key takeaways. Should we expect regression from Christian Yelich? Where can the Brewers best upgrade? Is Jesus Aguilar's power for real? Which player might surprise you as one who projects very well in 2019?

Then, host JR Radcliffe chats with Bob Buege (32:00), president of the Milwaukee Braves Historical Association and an author of books about the team. He discusses what the town was like during the Braves' 1957 World Series triumph and near misses in 1958 and '59. And what caused the events that came next, the decline of franchise popularity and its relocation to Atlanta?

Finally, JR chats with former Brewers second baseman Jim Gantner (52:00) about the 1982 team that won the American League pennant. What did World Series fever in Milwaukee look like at that time?"

AUDIO via the Journal-Sentinel Brewers Podcast:Brewers beat reporter Tom Haudricourt joins host JR Radcliffe to discuss the Baseball Writers Association of America votes for manager of the year and MVP, where Craig Counsell finished second and Christian Yelich won, as expected. They look back at Yelich's September for the ages, the determining factors to his win and that Jan. 25 evening when the team acquired him in the first place. Where did Counsell make the most difference this season, and would Counsell even be in the manager's chair if not in Milwaukee?

Tom then discusses the offseason briefly, and should Brewers fans read ANYTHING into the departure of both the hitting and pitching coach for the same jobs elsewhere?

Sunday November 18th:

AUDIO via Matt Pauley's Brewers Extra Innings Podcast: "

A lot of MLB hardware is passed out this past week and Christian Yelich wins the NL MVP but Craig Counsell comes up short of the NL Manager of the Year award. We do our best to put a bow on the fantastic season of Yelich while debating if Counsell was more deserving of the MOY award than Atlanta's Brain Snitker.

It is also week 2 of our Organizational Prospect rundown. This week, we focus in on the players who spent the majority of their seasons at the Single-A level with the Carolina Mudcats and/or Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Brew Crew Ball's Brad Ford is back for the discussion."

Hey, that's me...

Sunday December 2nd:

AUDIO via Matt Pauley's Brewers Extra Innings Podcast: "This past week the deadline passed for the Brewers to decide which players they would tender a contract (and potentially go to arbitration with) and which players to non-tender therefore cutting ties with. The most interesting decision was to non-tender Jonathan Schoop, who had a very disappointing run with the Brewers but also cost the team a fair amount to acquire and has a pretty good track record prior to the trade. On this week's podcast, Matt looks at that decision and goes through all the arbitration-eligible players and the decisions that were made for each one.

Jim Goulart of BrewerFan.net returns to the program and gives his take on the tender/non-tenders and also the other major story lines of the off-season."
