The time that Brewerfan made Deadspin. That was hilarious.

That was both hilarious and sad. Dude was a major jerk and some of the stuff he posted here was quite funny for how petty they were. However I felt bad his ex wife felt the need to come on here and apologize for him. I also felt the way the posters here handled her was pretty nice. I'd say classy but that word is ruined forever.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

Seriously? I need to see this.

Yes, please.

It's been so long that it would take some super sleuthing to find it but basically Ben's dad came on here ripping the org for this that and the other thing. Someone told Deadpsin and they posted a short story with quotes and what not. Eventually Ben's mom (estranged from the dad) came on to apologize for him. The dad was a real piece of work. I think he held a grudge against MLB because they never scouted him or something to that effect.

Guessing that was about 2004? As for link to that thread I am guessing it disappeared when the site went through the big migration back in 2004-2005. Someone else might know better than me though. It wasn't archived I know that for certain.

Yeah, I was here (on BF) for his dad's epic meltdown. I didn't know we got mentioned on Deadspin! That's awesome!

I think it made it to Deadspin. I have a very clear memory of someone on here getting upset that another poster would tip them off about it. I could be confusing this story with another one though but I'm fairly certain it was the Hendrickson dad thread.

  • 6 months later...

[sarcasm]I for one would like to know how R.J. Swindle's name is being dragged through the mud.[/sarcasm] He wasn't even a Brewer at the same time as Little Ben!

(And I didn't realize until I was double checking my memory of RJ's time in Milwaukee that he was on the Phillies' 2008 champion roster.)

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

What is sort of sad is he was living pay check to pay check so he embezzled (that's the correct term) money from his employer, yet as a 10th round pick he likely got at least a 100k+ bonus when he signed, so he apparently frittered that away as well as about a half-season worth of big league pay in 2004 ($300,000/year), and another month worth of major league pay in 2006 ($327,000/year). So besides being a thief, he also must be kind of stupid.

I'd argue that isn't really that much money. After taxes and paying your agent, it's not like that was life changing money. Especially if you have a mindset you'll keep making that much. If he was super frugal, he could have tucked away a bit, but not the type of money you'd be able to live off of for the long term. Either way, he shouldn't have resorted to swindling!

Was going to post the same thing. That's really not the type of money that you could live on long term.

I really doubt he got a 100K bonus. last year there were only 8 guys in round 10 that got over 100K. I realize the salary structures are different but I'd be willing to be he didn't get even 30K.
