2018 World Series

Bombers

When a relief pitcher comes in and gives up a 3-run homer I am not going to be Mr. Smiley about it.

I don't think this is the issue. For me, it's posters having the game lost before it begins or us having a 1-0 deficit in the first and claiming that the game is over and Counsell should be fired.

But just like turborickey said, IGT's are mainly a fun thing. It is easy to let yourself get heated there and we all probably need work on it at times but for the most part, it is hot takes that really mean pretty little in the grand scheme of things.

IMO, if you throw out hot take after hot take, you are asking for a debate. Isn't that the whole point? I know I threw out plenty of them, and totally expected to be challenged on every one. The IGTs are very "heat of the moment", but that doesn't mean the opinions of those who are overly negative, or those who are overly positive, are exempt from being challenged or even criticized.

Debating people is just fine, telling them to be positive or can the "negativity" is annoying. There was a guy in one the NLCS threads that told me to can the negativity because I said a base hit from Cain definitely bounced off the webbing of the CF's glove and he should have been called out. Which it did.

Being impartial is often deemed as "negative" which is part of the reason people complain about Joe Buck so much. Because he isn't calling the game like Bill Schroeder and obviously in the Brewers back pocket, that means he "hates them."

I totally get that frustration can lead to negativity. I've been there. It's the over the top stuff that I think rubs a lot of people wrong. One poster in the Game 2 NLCS thread declared that the series was over after the Brewers lost. I mean, come on?!? Another poster in the Game 7 IGT wrote a long, thought-out post basically about how Jeffress should be immediately cut after he gave up the HR to Puig, then doubled down after he was called on his hot take with an extremely vulgar, childish response. I mean, perhaps in hindsight I should have listed reasons why getting rid of Jeffress was an ill-advised move, but I thought it would be a waste of time, as those reasons are pretty obvious.

I guess what I'm saying is that I totally get where you'd be annoyed by people telling you to be positive or to can the negativity. It's a two-way street, though. In my opinion, the over-the-top negativity is just as annoying. I know, I know, "just ignore it!" right? Well, sometimes that's easier said than done.

This last part is so true. I see it during Brewer season, I see it during Packer season. So many Wisconsin fans have a perspective that they are just so hated by well-known national commentators and that they have nothing good to say about us.

It's funny because I went on Dodger boards in the NLCS and they just talk about how much these guys are drooling over us.

The reality is that most of these guys are pretty neutral with praise and complaints of both sides. Yet both sides somehow end up feeling jaded.

Seems this could have it's own topic. lol

the hot takes don't bother me, and the off the cuff comments are what make that thread enjoyable. Most of the time, we know when we say stupid things after the fact.

The IGT threads are nice to enjoy the game with like minded people, that is what I use them for to be honest...

Most of the people I know are not as die hard of a fan as I am, so sharing the highs and lows with people like me is a good time, even when I disagree with what is being said.

The only thing I wish would go are Packers updates :)

As long as they are replaced with old-school Coach Cooper youth baseball tales ;)

What a great addition!

I will give a different view, the IGT are downright toxic and make me not want to visit the site. If they were just negative or it was a clear case of just disagreeing it would be one thing, but it is a constant senseless series of complaints with no validity to them and it is just awful. I've left the site once because of how bad it became and I think I will probably leave it again because of it. ******** about every single play just gets old especially when baseball is so random over one game and so few of the complaints are actually grounded in any sort of fact.

I'd say on average 90% of the complaints in the IGT are just utter meaningless nonsense, that number is just way too high. At this point I've blocked double digit posters because I feel they bring nothing valid to the site and that probably just suggests this site is no longer worth visiting for intelligent baseball discussion. It has become the jsonline game thread which was just unbearably bad.

This pretty much summarizes my feelings toward the In-Game Threads. Most of the other threads across the site require a higher level of thoughtfulness. The IGTs are often a collection of reactionary moments throughout the ups and downs of a baseball game. I enjoy them because those who frequently post in them are much more engaged in the day-to-day storylines of the long baseball season than my friends and family.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Why not just not visit the IGT and still participate in all the rest of the baseball discussion? Either way, a few of your posts lately have not come off well but that’s just an opinion. Hope ya get it figured out because this seems way to angry for baseball posts.

Agree with the annoying part. Truth hurts sometimes. So glad to hear that debating people is now deemed as fine... cause I still feel sell outs sell out to Cubs fans. Glad I can say that again after being told otherwise.

Seriously, we all have our viewpoints. I don't like them all and many I don't agree with either. It is nice to get other people's views, though. I have learned a lot about baseball by reading posts on brewerfan.net from big time fans.

I just use gifs.

But how do you pronounce gif? Because if you pronounce it like the peanut butter brand you're not better than anybody and we cannot be internet friends.

Thing is you also take dumps on people who are trying to be postive. Sometimes its ok for someonle to get exited about a small sample. Really, it's not hurting anything. I appreciate your contributions but you can be really sanctimonious at times.

*ahem* Quite the extra inning WORLD SERIES game we've got going here! Can we get back on topic and discuss the merits and annoyances of IGTs somewhere else? (yes, I realize that, I guess, this IS an IGT. . . . )

Anybody else up watching this? I don’t care a tinker’s cuss about who wins this game or series but it’s been fun watching the extra

Inning drama. It’s midnight here as they start the 17th inning!!!

Eovaldi has pitched 6 innings of relief!! Wow!

Yeah, I'm still up here. I have no idea how long this can keep going for. Quite the game though. I dread that Manfred will overreact to a World Series game ending in the wee hours of the morning and implement some crazy extra inning rule.
