Anyone else starting to get just a little uneasy about Gallardo? It's not like it has been forever, but the Crew has seemed pretty aggressive in signing early picks thus far and he's still unsigned.

Not worried at all, None of the picks above him in the second round have signed. The Brewers still have another 11 months to sign him

I wouldn?t worry too much yet. Here is a little background info to refresh your memory on the last two HS 2nd rounders drafted by the Crew:

 

From JSOnline article on talks with Mike Jones (6/26/01):

 

Talks have not progressed nearly as well with the Brewers' second-round pick, high school shortstop J.J. Hardy of Tucson.

 

"The best way to put it is that it doesn't have the same pace," Zduriencik said.

 

Hardy ended up signing on July 16th.

 

Murray supposedly wasn?t expected to be a tough sign, but it still took until June 28th to sign him.

 

Maybe Patrick can verify this, but it seems that 2nd rounders are usually tougher to sign than 1st or 3rd rounders. Here is the data from BA for this year so far:

 

1st Round: 53% signed (16/30)

2nd Round: 30% signed (9/30)

3rd Round: 80% signed (24/30)

 

I guess what I am trying to say is I wouldn?t loose a lot of sleep yet, especially given the posts by hscoach.

I'm not sure if 2nd rounders typically take longer to sign, but above and elsewhere I have mentioned this:

 

The last 2 HS 2nd rounders the Brewers have taken have taken longer to sign; J.J. Hardy & Josh Murray.

 

If we're at the end of July & Gallardo's still not signed, I'll start to get concerned.

I was listening to ESPN 1510 today and I am 99.9% sure that they said the Brewers have in fact signed Gallardo...heard it at around 1:30 pm. Hope I heard it right.
