gallardo/rogers

Recommended Posts

I'm not trying to be picky, but just so we avoid any future Richie Sexton references, Mark Rogers' name is not spelled with a "d".

And no, there has been no word on Gallardo. I would bet we'll start to hear more about him once Rogers is inked. Fellow Brewers prep 2nd rounders such as J.J. Hardy & Josh Murray took longer than the first rounders in 2001 (Jones) & 2002 (Fielder).

The quotes from Gallardo right after the draft indicated that he had a tough decision on his hands. He has a commitment to TCU and is apparently going to seriously consider fulfilling it, but like "hscoach" said, it would be hard for him to turn down the kind of money he'll be offered as a second round (and early second round at that) selection.

There hasn't been anything written since then, AFAIK, at least in any publications that are indexed on google or lexis. If you take into account the above with what Patrick said about previous prep second rounders taking more time to ink, it might be awhile for Yo.

And Patrick, thanks for the "there's no D in Rogers" post. That was starting to bug me a bit, but I didn't want people to think I was a grammar dork. Rest assured that I share your sentiment! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

When I profiled Gallardo earlier this spring, I noted that his commitment to TCU should not be that great of a challenge. Pretty much all players say something to the affect that they have to consider their college commitment. Why wouldn't they? It's all about bargaining power. The Brewers wouldn't have taken Gallardo if they didn't think they could sign him.

It will be done in 2 weeks.

The D in Rogers really has nothing to do about grammar in my mind, it's just about common courtesy & respect of spelling someone's name right. I know there is & was no disrespect intended by posters that mispells a player's name, I just wanted to point it out. We might as well get used to doing so now, hoping we can talk about that player for a long, long time.

That's Richard Sexton thank you very much.

I don't see the commitment to TCU being a huge deal either, since he's going to be getting a serious hunk of change to sign, and it's not like he has a commitment to LSU, Texas, or some other storied baseball powerhouse.

I think I'm probably more worried about signing Andrew Bowman at this point. Everything I've read indicates that he's pretty committed to going to Arizona State, I'm guessing thats why he slipped as far as he did. His video looks very impressive.

I don't think I would worry about the Brewers signing Bowman because it probably won't happen. If it does, adding a player like that to our system is pure gravy. The only reason he fell was because of reported bonus aspirations to lure him away from ASU as you guessed.

Well if Andy Bowman wants to play for Arizona St. then couldnt he be a draft and follow canidate?

Any player who attends one class at a 4-year college program is ineligible to sign, and cannot re-enter the draft until after their junior year (or in rare exceptions after their sophomore year based on their age). So if Drew attends ASU, he's gone until about 2007 Draft.

Exactly. I would guess that the Brewers will try to sign their main objectives, then come back to him and offer whatever is left in their budget. He'd probably require second-round money at the very least. But I have to agree that the video is impressive to say the least.

Cress, I actually caoched yo his jr yr, and have watched him this year, Texas is big and i was 4 hrs from family but this guy is special and i keep in touch with the head baseball coach. I know Yo wants to sign i just dont know what they have offered or what he wants.

I am 99% sure he will sign, the kid loves ball and that is all he wants to do. I hope to see him sign soon.

Another name to look out for in the 2005 draft Hunter harris Gladewater High School, in Texas mid 90s fastball and gets stronger as the game goes by, he had 142 or so k's this yr

hscoach, I'm just curious as to the pronunciation of Gallardo's name. I'm assuming it would be pronounced "Guy-yardo", but I know that some people adopt more "americanized" pronunciations of their last name.

So are you in Ft. Worth? I ask because I'm a half hour from Dallas/Ft Worth, and it's cool to find out that there are other people following the Brewers down here. Too bad I couldn't have known he was gonna be drafted by the crew or I'd have made the drive down this year.

With most of their top picks signed already, I would think that Gallardo is the focus of what is left. Personally it seems a little odd that it is not done at this point as the Brewers in recent years have not been known as a team that low-balls players.

I don't think it's about low-balling Gallardo. As I've pointed out before, the last 2 HS 2nd rounders the Brewers have taken have taken longer to sign; J.J. Hardy & Josh Murray.
