Replacing Gio Gonzalez on the NLCS roster (UPDATE: Zach Davies added to NLCS Roster)

So, do you think they go the safe route and call up someone like Davies, Anderson or Lyles? Or do they call up a bat t try to inject some life into the offense? From what I've read, it appears that they could pretty much call up anyone in their minor league system to take that spot.

i'm guessing it will be Davies, but a bat the Dodgers haven't seen would be fun.

Counsell already said pitcher. Davies is pretty much a given.

Yeah, you're probably right. This offense sure could use a shot in the arm, though I just don't know who that would be.

I mean at this point you gotta just role with the guys you know can do it. I don't know what adding some minor league guy is going to do...you wouldn't dare start them and a measly AB or two probably isn't going to make magic happen.

Gio going down is a gift in my opinion. Now we get another arm in what surely will be a crazy two games in Milwaukee hitting the pen hard for all it can give.

has to be an arm, they need a "fresh" arm to take some innings if needed. Davies makes the most sense

Once they replace someone due to injury, that player has to stay out for the remainder of the post season, correct? I'm not overly concerned about not having Gio again, I'm just curious.

I will be surprised if it is anybody but Davies. Here is Davies from exactly one week ago today...

Also, a reminder that Davies pitched against the Dodgers twice last season and this was his combined line...

13.0 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 13 Ks

The rule is they must miss the remainder of the current series as well as the next series. If a player was put on the DL in the Division Series they could return for the World Series. Obviously now that we are into the Championship Series it means they would be done for the year.

Do you give him a start, or just make him another multi-inning pen option?

Not sure it really matters. I don't think we see anyone really pitch that long from here on out. Miley today is probably the longest leash anyone will get for the remainder of the NLCS. The bullpen will be fresh for Milwaukee and it will be all hands on deck. Someone will have to be flat our dominating to go much more than once through the order.

Assuming they are dead set on Miley today, start Davies in Game 6 if we win Game 5 and save Chacin for a Game 7 on regular rest. If we lose Game 5, there's a chance I'd still do the same thing, but I'd probably lean toward Chacin in Game 6 and try to save Davies for Game 7. The bullpen may very well be toast by that point.

Should start Davies today and start Miley in game 6. Davies is usually not great at home.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I would certainly not mind going Davies today, assuming he's ready to go and keep Miley on regular rest. I just assumed they were definitely going Miley.

Counsell named Miley the starter today a few days ago. I guess they could make a change, but I'm sure he's been going through his routine like he's starting today. I don't know if it would be smart to mess with that.

Got to be Davies. The moment Gio was injured I considered Jennings; with the depleted pen and Cedeno being the least pitched it's no longer a consideration. If we can perhaps have Schoop come up with a hammy, Broxton would be an upgrade as well.

I think the fairly clear-cut candidates are Davies and Anderson, but I'll also add Jennings as a dark horse specifically because of the lefties. For Jennings, it would primarily depend on how he's looked in bullpen sessions the last week or 2 and let CC/DJ make that decision. I'll be curious what we decide.

According to multiple Twitter reports, Zach Davies, Chase Anderson, Jordan Lyles and ... get this .... Matt Albers (!!!) are with the team in Los Angeles, so it will likely be one of the four.

While I fully expect them to activate either Davies or Anderson, Lyles was actually really good out of the pen after he was acquired. I see no scenario where Albers is activated, unless they somehow think he's found something and are keeping it extremely under wraps.

I don't know who I'm pulling for. I think Andeson has a little better stuff, but the HR troubles scare me against such a powerful lineup. He would be pitching with a pretty huge chip on his shoulder, though. Davies has a good history against the Dodgers.

Should start Davies today and start Miley in game 6.

Agree. If I'm CC, of course I want to win today but I'm pretty much setting things up for games 6/7. That means Miley/Chacin and a fresh BP. Roll with Davies/Woodruff today, get as deep into the game as you can with those two. And who knows, maybe they get to Kershaw again and win the game in the process. I would even be fine with Anderson, the long ball not a huge issue in Dodger Stadium with the wind blowing in.
