:laughing As if this place wasn’t loony enough. Thanks Craig. (I love it!)
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Its Jonathan Schoops birthday today. You cant have the birthday boy on the bench lol.

[sarcasm]This! :)[/sarcasm]

It would be a pretty great story line if he comes through with a big game on his birthday. I would have preferred Perez in his spot though.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Well he is certainly due for a plate appearance so he is kinda sort of due.

Many unexpected contributions so far this postseason; it won't surprise me the least if it is Schoop's turn.

He will probably be lucky to get 2 AB's; I don't think Craig will let him hit against a righty and would certainly pinch hit Shaw.

Trying to find the logic in Schoop over Perez/Shaw, it appears that Schoop has historically been his best against offspeed pitches, including curves. Hill obviously throws a lot of curves (is basically two pitches, and his fastball isn't overpowering).

I feel more comfortable with Schoop starting than sitting on the bench. He doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who will come up with a big pinch hit in big spot after sitting on the bench for 2 weeks. Basically, if you are going to have him on the roster, you might as well start him.

Never really thought of that, but that's a good point. I would not want Schoop to come off the bench to try to provide any offense in a big moment. With the way CC manages, Schoop won't be playing more than half the game.

I agree that having Schoop in the starting lineup strengthens our bench. lol

I know its kind of silly. But there some guys, like Granderson, who don't need to see regular ABs to have a quality pinch hit appearance.

Even if Schoop goes 0 for 3 with 2 Ks today, getting those ABs will likely make him a better hitter off the bench the rest of the series.

Dodgers' 1-8 are all RHH. Let Gio throw to the first guy and then bring in Woody? :D

If guys get on base I see no reason to keep Gio in there.

I really hope that's what he's saving Guerra and Peralta for. Let them make some tough decisions about bringing in LHB's early.

ETA: And Woodruff, of course. That's a given since that was the formula in game 1.

Woodruff? We happen to have the third best pitcher in all of baseball against RHB this season (30+ IP)

1. Blake Treinen, .171 wOBAA

2. Seranthony Dominguez, .179 wOBAA

3. Freddy Peralta, .185 wOBAA

He's quite well rested and seems to pitch best when working on a lot of adrenaline.

By the way, count me in for Peralta. I understand the concerns. Would anyone really be surprised if he turns in a legendary performance though, like in his debut? I get it; nobody would be surprised if he walked 47 batters in a row either. I say it's worth the risk. Ride or die. It's our year.

With those numbers if they thought enough to put him on the roster I love the idea of going to Peralta and being ready to have a quick hook. If you get Amazing Peralta he basically finishes the game and then you have anyone you want in game 5.

22-year-old rookie who basically hasn't pitched in 3 weeks and has issues with command?

Yep, I'd be very surprised by a strong performance. It would definitely be a happy surprise, though.

I think my reaction to him coming in early would be very similar to the clenching that happened among many here last night when Jeffress came in. I love the kid's potential, but I don't trust him in a spot like this. At all.

He had some good/great starts against good teams in huge situations. You shouldn't be surprised if he does really well. It would be a high-risk, high-reward move, but look what he did against Colorado and St. Louis. He's a live arm and a great match-up against RHB's. It's a risky move but the benefits outweigh the costs IMO. We were all surprised when he started a critical game against the Cardinals but they know what they have in him and I think he'll get some meaningful work sooner or later. Tonight's game is perfect for it IMO.

This is Schoops chance to prove he is worth $10M next year. I can’t see the Brewers playing that if he isn’t a difference maker.

As far as I'm concerned, his slam off Bumgarner to give the Brewers that win against the Giants made the trade worthwhile, seeming that one game would have put us in the Wild Card round. Ortiz could develop into something, but I wouldn't say the chances are super high. Carmona is basically a shot in the dark, and Villar was a throw-in.

Anything he does now is justification for bringing him back next year. He's got an All Star past and has shown the offensive ability to carry a team on his back. It's time to see it.

I get the Peralta idea and all but not sure of the risk when you can basically do the same thing with Wood/Burnes with less risk of walks/blowup. I'm sure their RH splits aren't as impressive but I'd think still very good, and both have been great for a while now (excepting last game for Burnes). So I'd just go the conventional route (relative to the brewers anyway) and go with one of them. If you do roll the dice on Peralta one of these guys has to be ready to go as well to yank if Peralta walks or as soon as two guys get on base.
