A Word on Mark Rogers

You know what's funny. Coming from coastal Maine and being a Mt. Ararat alumni I personally find Rogersfan fairly amusing.

These boards are double edged swords and a lot of the time really do not mean much. They are simply personal opinions and no more.

I've known Mark for 18 years and feel pretty comfortable saying he will give the Brewers 110% no matter what happens in the future.

I would suggest the "8Fan" stick to positive info instead of his/her informed opinions, especially since they are on the outside looking in!

Two points,

1. This is a site & message board dedicated to every aspect of the Brewers organization. This includes all forms of discussion including criticism. As long as the poster does not use obscene language or unfounded personal attacks, they are free to discuss both the good and bad parts of the organization and its players. Rogers8Fan hasn't broken any forum rules, and even if his personal observations were misinformed or based on hasty conclusions, he's still free to present his opinion.

2. Even though MLB is based around a game, it's ultimately a multi-billion dollar business. No one here really wants to see any of these kids fail or get injured. But there are tough decisions that have to be made by the management of every team, and as evidenced by Rogers' signing bonus, a single decision can have multi-million dollar implications. Following along with such decisions is what being a fan is about. And since teams must have objective observation and criticism of each of the players they draft, it's fitting that fans should look to have the same sort of discussions. Obviously our sources of information are not as good as the teams themselves, but we draw from what we can, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If any of you have personal insights that you think draw a better picture of the player in question, feel free to share them.

Compared to everyone else at this board, I am more like from the "inside looking out" rather than from the "outside looking in." I thought I said this... I'm from Lewiston. You know where Lewiston is if you went to Mt. Ararat. I've seen Mark Rogers pitch, which the very heavy majority of people here have not. I gave my insights to him using not only what I personally think of Rogers but what my friends think, what I've heard his classmates say, the local media, and other observations.

I figure they could get most of the positive things quite easily through the media. I gave my more insightful opinions, rather than you who just attacked them and insulted me and simply said he would give 110% to the Brewers. And I believe I did address he is a determined individual.

Don't worry about it, Rogers8Fan... we definitely appreciate your contributions. The great thing about an open forum like this is that anyone can post their thoughts... disagree with someone? Let us know why.

Don't hate, appreciate! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

I'm with Bill, I don't think Rogers8Fan said anything that a professional athlete shouldn't be able to handle, nor did he make any personal attacks on or unfair statements about Rogers. I guess that's just the nature of this type of board: everyone shares fact and opinion at the same time. As long as the opinions don't cross the line, there is certainly a place for them here.

Having been from Lewiston and only played in the KVAC for one season your opportunities to see the boy pitch were probably limited to this past season with the exception of post play-off.

There is ALWAYS the danger of someone from Maine alluding to having any kind of "inside track".

Post what you wish, I'm only suggesting that there might be others that do in fact know the kid better.

Definitely... and we'd love to hear from them. Stories, tall tales, little anecdotes, anything... we're all still trying to get a feel for him, and so the first-hand info that folks share is much appreciated.

Man, when did I claim to be the Mark Rogers messiah? I was just stating my opinion and those of others who are actually aware of him. It's not like I'm not making stuff up. I'm stating my observations. I'm sure there are hundreds or even thousands of people who know more about Mark Rogers than I do. However, until you came along (supposedly you know more about Rogers than I do, I don't doubt it's possible, but you haven't said anything about him) I had no problem telling these Brewer fans (who seem to appreciate it) what I knew about Rogers. My post was opinionated, but that's stuff they won't find in the press. Usually the press just reports on things. I'm not trying to come across as the be-all, end-all of Mark Rogersdom.

I would say about the time you started three different threads on him! For instance simply go back to the beginning of this one.

I believe Mark will do fine with time and some guidance from the Brewers. He has a great work ethic, maintains himself in good shape, truly cares deeply about becoming successful. He has great tools already and maintains good control.

Hopefully Thursday he can get his feet wet and throw a couple of decent innings.

I'm sure that coming from the NE region that getting off a plane into 105 degree weather takes some getting used to. The air certainly will be nowhere near as heavy as we are used to out here.

In the coming months as the Brewers and Mark get used to each other they will both discover what they really have. The biggest plus for the Brewers is the fact they bought into a kid with no baggage. He will give them 110% all the time. Sure he'll get hit and lose some games as everyone else but he'll make a great representative for the organization anywhere he ends up.

My opinions will always be my own and not what friends or other have said.

He will be a player that will be easy to get behind and cheer for and in the end a leader.

Hey Thunnis...Mark's stats for 7/1 were awesome for his first showing....our hometown boy just got his feet wet!! Steph was at the beach with us chafing at the bit Thursday wondering how his first start was....she came up to the house and called and came back with a smile on her face.....we all knew that he had done well.
