Heavy wind in LA right now - straight in.

Posted that in the game thread for tonight earlier - called for strong winds out of the northish around 10-15 mph, then calming as the game wore on. However it indicated winds would be stronger down in valleys/lower-lying areas. wouldn't surprise me if Chavez Ravine is pretty brisk right now...

Guy on the news had the OF flags behind him and they were barely moving.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

CC confirmed that Miley is starting G5 on short rest. So I would indeed expect Gio + Woodruff tomorrow. I would imagine that Peraltas role during this 3-game stretch is to provide length somewhere, depending on the game situation. They could have some very specific use for him too ofc.

Confirmed by Counsell. Awesome that we can go back to that combo after only 3 days rest.

Always a little nervous about throwing guys on short rest, but huge to have four LHP in five games against these Dodgers (and we just won the game with the RHP!)

How much looser are the Brewers, by the way, even with these past few games being intense? A study in contrast with the Dodgers players breaking bats, throwing bats, freaking out, etc.

This time we can try to get Gio through 4-6 innings. Woodruff for 3 innings. Jeffress/Knebel for save. Who am I kidding? We can let Burnes finish off the 7-0 win.

[sarcasm]We can bring in Guerra and Peralta after Woodruff hits his grand slam[/sarcasm]

I'm not a huge fan of this He can't pitch game 7 so why pitch him on short rest. I assume we want Chacin for 1 more game, Miley for 1 more game and then a filler for 1 game. Why not make that filler game the game 5 day and let Miley pitch fully rested.

My guess is the plan is Miley game 5. Bullpen game for game 6 after the day off and Chacin game 7 if needed. So I guess if they are going to go heavy bullpen one game they want it with a rested bullpen.

I would guess because they don't look at short rest the way we traditionally have because they're throwing fewer pitches. So to they're not viewing short rest as this big risk like we have always done. Second, because they likely view game 5 as crucial. The team that gets up 3-2 is at a massive statistical advantage and/or it's possibly a clincher for us.

I can see it both ways, gotta trust the plan. Part of me wants Miley/Chacin back in Milwaukee if necessary. Especially if they go up 3-1 tonight. Then you can take a shot with a high risk/reward Peralta start Game 5. Kershaw could toss a complete game shut-out, and it won't matter. That's the risk of starting Miley.

But if you can get to Kershaw again, Peralta might be worth the gamble up 3-1. Dodgers are starting to see plenty of the Brewers staff, so Peralta's delivery could really be effective. Plus, the Dodgers chase a lot of high fastballs, which also plays into Peralta's strength.

Just some things to think about, but I'm not going to question it if Miley starts Game 5.

Starting Miley on short rest worries me, a LOT!

I read an article that showed the history of the playoffs and starting guys on short rest, and the results were not good, in fact, they were bad historically... No idea where I read it, and haven't looked for it, so if someone needs the source, I don't have it.

You were also super worried about Chacin starting on short rest against the Rockies, and that went fine. I get it, though. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, and one of these decisions to backfire on the Brewers in a big way, but like what was pointed out above, it is obvious that this team's advanced scouting and analytics departments are top notch, and they are working with data that it is likely none of us are even thinking about. This team is up 2-1 on a team that, on paper at least, blows them out of the water talent wise. And they are doing it largely on the strength of their pitching. Personally, I am 100% on board with the decisions they make. It is likely that something is going to backfire at some point, but what they are doing is working. Miley's pitch count was low, and he basically dominated that lineup. He's not exactly a 100% power pitcher, either. I have no problem with him going tomorrow.

Kiké Hernandez was not happy with the Dodgers faithful yesterday:

"It sucks. He’s a teammate. He’s a competitor, and you know he’s doing everything he can. He’s not trying to have a hard time behind home plate or anything like that. But it sucks that there’s nothing going on in the stands. Since the first inning when (Ryan) Braun hit that double, the stadium went kind of quiet for the rest of the evening. And it sucks that they got loud just to show (up) Yasmani."

He made a bunch of comments. I would boo him relentlessly if I was a dodger fan. You don't do that to the fans...ever.

Can we really even ask Peralta to pitch anymore unless it is an extra inning game? He hasn't pitched in forever and then we ask him to go into a high stress situation. I don't think he pitches unless there is a blowout or extra innings. Same for Guerra probably.

Guerra just pitched a scoreless 9th in a leverage situation on Saturday. He's good to go.

I agree on Peralta. It's obvious that he's the "in case of emergency" guy.

I fully anticipate non-Brewers fans criticizing Counsell if the Dodgers score a lot of runs in either one of the next two games.

"See? You can't get away with it forever!"

In the meantime, if a bad game happens, it's probably just because it's a bad game against a great lineup. Hell, if Brewers pitchers give up 3 runs in 6 innings, it will look like a blowup, the way this postseason has gone.

I agree. I see where he's coming from though. The Dodgers take the playoffs for granted but can't seem to get over the hump, and now it seems they're slowly starting to regress from their peak. They're kind of like the Packers of MLB for the last 6 years and they're all sick of spinning their wheels. Packer fans are frustrated with hitting a wall every year too, and now they're on the decline. There's kind of an entitled vibe all the way around. Their fans are starting to think it's not their year to get over the hump once again, and that gets old.
