He didn't shoot heroin Al, he's hooked on OxyContin.

Sad to report this from BA

The news on Jeff Allison, the Marlins' 2003 first-round pick, keeps getting worse. Police reports in Massachusetts indicate Allison spent three days in a hospital last week due to a heroin overdose.

I admit that I know next to nothing about heroin addiction, besides what I learned from Trainspotting, which was hardly a clinical study on the topic. I've no idea what his likelihood of recovery is.

Still, I'd like to think that after a stint in rehab, he might be able to pick up his career as long as he's supported and stays with counseling. The odds of his career ever amounting to anything have certainly gotten much longer.

I wasn't just talking about throwing his baseball career down the gutter. He could end up a bum on the street. Or in jail. Or dead. I took Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse for my major in college. While it is possible to get off heroin, it is very difficult. And the cravings never leave. Methodone can help with the physical effects when getting off heroin but the mental cravings won't just go away.

OxyContin and Heroin are both Morphine derivatives. And in fact, OxyContin is much more addicting and dangerous. Allison has already admitted to being addicted to OxyContin and he has been treated once already for it. The preexisting problems with OxyContin lead me strongly to believe that the "heroin" overdose is in fact an OxyContin overdose. If he was getting them illegally before, it's perfectly likely he was getting them again.
