Jeremy Jeffress Issues?

MrTPlush
I like that Counsell has mystery to his decisions. Fans do not need to know everything. I don't know why we have gotten to this point in fandom, but it just doesn't need to happen.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I agree with your second sentence, as to your 3rd, I think it's just human nature. We want to know what's going on, we want to know the why. But there are a million different possible reasons and sometimes we just do not need to know. These are still human beings who sometimes do not desire every possible thing that happened throughout the course of a day to be broadcast. His agent came on here and said he's fine and that's good enough for me.

And Woodruff has been absolutely fantastic this last month. We've been a little spoiled by how good our big 3 have been that anything less seems like a big step down, but I would take Woodruff over most of the guys the Cubs were throwing out late yesterday.

Guessing they didn't want to say anything about him being unavailable for strategic reasons.

Exactly this. What is the upside of letting the opposing manager and team know that one of your best players is not available in that game?

Are we really still not trusting Counsell's personnel and communication decisions at this point?

I'm sadly reminded of the debacle that happened one day four years ago, when we later found out that a Brewers player had lost his son. Some of the comments made before people knew all the facts were horrible.

So then why the "undisclosed reasons" line? Just say he was being saved for today.

and I'm not suggesting we have a right to know what's going on but I don't think it was a simple roster management thing. Seems JJ is doing OK and that's the important thing.

This.

This is not normal, something is up. It doesn’t mean it’s a big deal, I certainly hope it’s not. But this is not just getting a day of rest or gamesmanship. I still haven’t heard anyone confirm he was actually in the bullpen or celebrating with the team. If he was, then I’ll be happy and stop asking questions.

But instead I’ve heard only vague indirect responses like “he was in uniform” and “he’s fine.” And when asked why JJ wasn’t up in the 9th, if it’s for rest or nagging injury the answer would not be “undisclosed reasons.” It would be “we were saving him for tomorrow” or “his neck is still sore.

IMO we are not being told something. And yes that is ok, I don’t think I’m entitled to know everything. But as a Brewers fan and a HUGE JJ fan, I can’t help but be concerned.

I was all for leaving good Hader on the mound in the ninth. However, Any word on why Woodruff was warming instead of Jeffress? Is Jeffress hurt or was he off limits for some crazy reason?

If Rizzo gets on in the 9th, would Woodruff have been called upon to get the last out for the division title? Finding this fascinating that he was up throwing.....

NO chance IMO you replace Hader with a righty Woodruff vs Rizzo.

I assumed that Jeffress had spasms again...but hopeful that's it. He's been a beast for us.

1st round pick, filler in a trade, bounces around, trade back for him, one of the elite high leverage relievers for the team that drafted him.

The reason for saying undisclosed reasons is probably as simple as not announcing that the reason was preparation for losing Monday. It sends the wrong message.

How about we stop tying to read anything into JJ's situation?

The same nonsense happened the last time he was mysteriously unavailable, and everything was fine.

Let's leave the guy alone and enjoy our success.

I think you are 100% correct. Jeffress pitched high-leverage innings on Friday and Saturday, so pitching him yesterday, then turning around and pitching him today would have been asking a lot.

I too just wish they would have come out and said that, instead of the "undisclosed" crap. I truly believe that JJ has his life in order, but with any guy who has has demons in his past, there is always a chance, however tiny, that they can come back.

Yeah, but up 2 in the 9th, you ask a lot out of your guys with the Division and HFA on the line.

My best guess, the same injury that flared up a week ago. If we were so scared about tomorrow, we wouldn't have gone with Hader for two innings.

Maybe he had explosive diarrhea and spent the end of the game in the bathroom. As a former pitcher, I can assure you that going out on the mound wearing Depends lined with Turface wouldn't help one's mechanics.

I mean, my kid missed the first two outs of the 9th unleashing a rusty hose into the toilet. Someone investigate: did Jeffress have Taco Bell for dinner the night before?

So if , say, Ryan Braun wasn’t in the lineup, or even the dugout yesterday for “undisclosed reasons,” we should all just mind our own business and not worry about it?

Clearly different, but our all-star closer has been conspicuously absent from the bullpen twice this week. Not trying to make a mountain out of what I hope is a molehill. But it’s a legitimate question that no one is actually directly answering.

The fact that he was tweeting during the game is more concerning to me. Especially a simple, "nope". If he would have said, "Hader's got this!" "I'm ready for the NLDS", etc., I would have been more confident. Something is indeed up. Didn't seem like JJ was happy. I don't need to know what's up. I don't need an explanation. I'm not going to speculate. But don't expect me to buy the BS that he was simply being rested for normal rest when he wasn't celebrating with his teammates on the field or in the locker room.

This is not a witch hunt. I love the Brewers and I love JJ. So yeah, I wonder what’s up when something is clearly off, especially at such a pivotal time. No I don’t expect answers, but yeah I’m concerned. Hoping for nothing but the absolute best.

I'm not saying anyone shouldn't ask, but whatever it is the team is preferring to keep it internal and until they decide otherwise we just have to accept that.

You are correct, I definitely agree. I don’t mean to pry.

As much as anything, just trying to say I’m concerned. If anything I suppose I’m responding to those saying it’s nothing slightly worrisome here

Tweeting during a game is against MLB policy so I'm sure that's reason #1 it was deleted. As for any other reasons, I'll allow you all to speculate wildly.

Don’t think I’ve seen any speculation in the thread, much less wild speculation. Just fans concerned about a very important player at a very important time in the season.

I'll take your word for it on the policy. But why the heck is he reading twitter (let alone responding) during the biggest game of the season (thus far)???

Brewerfan.net blows up if Woodruff blows that game. Play around all you want since we won (and wow what a win it was). Saying Jeffress was hurt would have been the only saving grace. "Saving" Jeffress for the next day when the team has a lead with the division on the line is at hand, Cubs hanging by a thread?

At this point, does it really matter?
