2018-10-01 (Game 163): Brewers (Chacín) at Cubs (Quintana) 12:05 PM CDT [Brewers win 3-1; 2018 NL Central Champs!]

Eye Black

Congrats to the Brewers on winning the division this year.

I did not believe they would be successful enough this year to win the NL Central this year (or advance further) but the fact remains they were able to get the job done & complete the 1st step - making the playoffs by winning the division.

Now 3 more steps remain:

- Advance in the playoffs to the championship series

- Advance to the World Series

- Claim the WS Championship

Good luck to the Brewers and their fans this October.

MA gets a call from Stearns about obtaining Cedeno, Granderson, and Gio on Aug 31. Didn’t sound like Stearns thought he would say yes to all three but MA tells him to pull the trigger. Great situation in Milwaukee right now.

Which team has the better chance of beating the Cubs tomorrow? Rockies or Dodgers? Do not want to see the Cubs again until next season.

Happens every Monday after a Packer home game. Lots of Packer fans from all over the country make the pilgrimage and then fly home the next day. Don't take that as a dis to the Brewers.

I like both clubs' chances - both have been hot as of late and have dynamic lineups. With the Cubs' current bullpen situation anything short of a dominating start by Lester and they're in trouble. Lester found a way to get through 5 or 6 scoreless innings against the Pirates in his last start, but he was shaky at best.

Regardless of who the Brewers get in the NLDS, they're going to have their hands full. It's just great winning the division and getting 2 full days to rest up the pen and have a series to prep for, not another winner take all WC game the day after using everyone but Jeffress of note from the bullpen knowing your starter won't be expected to go much past 4-5 innings no matter who it is.

Probably flying home after the game yesterday.

Should somebody ask Cole Hamels about the status of Cubs-Brewers? Do “MVP” chants from the visiting crowd make this a rivalry yet? Does a crowd of Brewers fans personally escorting the Brewers owner up a Wrigley Field concourse to a cascade of cheers make this a rivalry yet? DOES TRASHING THE VISITOR LOCKER ROOM WITH CHAMPAGNE AND BEER MAKE THIS A ******* RIVALRY YET?!

I would much rather play the Cubs than Dodgers. Dodgers have the most talented and balanced roster in the NL. I dont want any part of them round one. The Cubs dont scare me. Their bats are more inconsistent then ours. Their bullpen isnt reliable and their starters are good but not special.

I just asked him on his twitter page. I don't expect a response

Nice to see ESPN can't even get a single headline up for Milwaukee while they fawn over LA.

There are still tons of cardinals in the NLDS commercial airing today—after they were eliminated three days ago! The media will always cater to the big markets, and they absolutely hate it when smaller markets like Milwaukee, Kansas City, or even Cleveland or Oakland do well. It’s the nature of the business. I don’t even care anymore. I cancelled ESPN two years ago and have never looked back.

We are the team the MLB doesn’t want to see win. TV ratings will drown as we keep winning.

So, so happy. When we were 5 games back I couldn't see us winning the division, but I'm delighted to be wrong. The team really stepped it up the last month or two. And it wasn't just Yelich, Hader, Jeffress, Cain and the other guys who get the headlines. Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff pitched key innings. Even Jordan Lyles and Junior Guerra stepped up when needed from the bullpen. I had never even heard of Erik Kratz before he was picked up. Broxton has barely played, but made some key plays when he has. Santana has been brilliant as a pinch hitter. Curtis Granderson has stepped up in limited playing time.

And today, Orlando Arcia of all people has 4 hits! Jhoulys Chacin was fantastic just when we needed him to. Hader recovered from a bad outing for a 2-inning save.

David Stearns assembled a roster made for September with a ton of depth, and deserves a ton of credit. I'm so thankful our GDT crew don't run things, or CC would've been out a long time ago and we probably wouldn't be here. Not just the results, but the solid and patient approach from (most of) our batters might even earn Darnell Coles some goodwill here, though that might be pushing it.
