Wainwright is a decent hitter but why were they not pinch hitting for him there? You have to act as if you're down 3-0 in a 7 game series or something here. This is your only chance and you have to take risks. Pickoff play made it moot but if they have to burn their bullpen after Waino to get some pinch hitters in there, so be it.

Probably because he is a free agent after this year and he may even retire so they are going to give him every chance to go as deep as he can. I totally get it.

So that's the priority over a playoff race for them?

It is a marginal choice either way. Their bullpen has been awful, he's a good hitter, his pitch count is low etc. This is just a tie breaker probably.

To be fair, there COULD be something bad with the mound. I remember pitching at Franklin my senior year in high school (Franklin was one of the best teams around, as was my school) and the pitching rubber was angled a bit backwards. It was so awkward, I couldn't establish a good balance point, and it took extra effort to get my momentum moving toward home plate. I was not on top of my game that day. I still pitched well, somehow (in that I only gave up one run in five or six innings), but it didn't feel good at all.

That said, Norris sucks.

Again though, Jedd Gyorko has been as bad as I've ever seen a player be for 4 days. Between the small village he has left on base the last 4 games and now that play he has been utter garbage.

Plus, my wife heard his name on TV the other day and said it was a horrible name, guessing that he was made fun of as a kid.

Didn't someone post in the standings thread that 1-3 was the most likely scenario for the Cubs? Even before yesterday, don't know how that could've been considered the "most likely" scenario for the team with the best record in the NL. Certainly possible, but not "most likely."

Cards can't even figure out how to get to the Cubs bullpen. What a useless team.

Our inability to secure a sweep vs. the Cubs earlier this month may have ultimately decided the division.

Our inability to get one more win at any point in the season may have ultimately decided this division. That's how seasons and wins/losses work.
