2018 Moments, Games, Plays

Baldkin

I thought there was a thread for this, but I couldn't find it.... but...

I'm starting to compile clips to fill my coffers for this off season (and to play randomly at future tailgates)

I'd love to hear people's favorite plays, moments, games from this season.

I'll start with an early season favorite of mine:

"I wasted so much time in my life hating Juventus or A.C. Milan that I should have spent hating the Cardinals." ~kalle8

I was just thinking about starting a similar thread. It seems like there have been so many special moments this season, hopefully this thread can be a nice collection of remembering some of the best.

Here is Adam McCalvy’s article recapping some: The Top 10 Brewers Moments of 2018

Not just “at Night” anymore.

April 3rd, the second home game of year, when Yelich and Braun hit back to back home runs on back to back pitches to walk off the Cardinals!

This. We almost didn't go because of how much it snowed that night, and I had a cold on top of it. But it was worth it.

Also on my list:

15-inning game vs. Pittsburgh on August 24. Yes, being the home team gave the Brewers an advantage, but look how utterly implausible the ending was. Jordan Lyles, people.

Thames walkoff vs the Rockies on August 3. Not as implausible, just dang cool.

Nate Orf's July 4 home run.

We were at home for the Jesus 13-pitch AB, but from my couch I remember thinking "He can do this. We just have to be patient." Then pitch 13 came and I laughed and laughed with joy.

I'm sure I'll think of more over time.

The comeback at Colorado on Friday night to win in extras, with Pina's home run tying it in the 9th. Then Peralta on Mother's day.

Braun's diving catch in the 7th to keep the deficit at 2-1 followed by a 2 RBI double for Moose to take the lead in the 8th Saturday night in Atlanta.

Those were the two road trips I made this year and the Crew gave us some memorable games.

The improbable 15th Inning comeback win to beat the Pirates will be one of my favorites. Relief pitcher Jordan Lyles walks with two outs; Kratz singles to tie the game; Arcia knocks in the winning runs.

The comeback helps to secure a series win against the Pirates, the second series win in a streak of seven series wins in August/September, as the Brewers make the playoff push.

That moment in that game changed the feel of the season from 'Another late season fade' to 'Team of Destiny'.

It's a bit easier to forget about Brent Suter actually being on the field instead of a clubhouse motivator, but DUDE HIT A NOT CHEAP DINGER OFF COREY KLUBER on May 8. He also had his fair share of web gems: https://www.mlb.com/news/brent-suter-rolls-dives-to-tag-alex-gordon/c-283183070

I have two personal favorite moments. #1 Brent Suter Homer #2 Jonathan Scoop Grand Slam on September 9th. I have gone too many games over the years in this rebuild where we faced good pitchers and got flattened (Cueto 5,000 times). We finally put a good team that could get to ace pitchers...and I loved every second.

Yesterday was a great moment too. To be able to clinch the first shot we had, a sweep, on the road, against another team dying to win, and against the Cardinals. It was hard fought and they pulled it out.

It's crazy to think my favorite Brewer moment of 2018 came from Jonathan Schoop, but that GS off a Bumgarner was amazing. With MadBum hitting Braun on purpose, you could feel the intensity of that game. I was running around and screaming afterwards like it was a Rodgers Hail Mary when Schoop hit that.

I know some here think I just hate everything Ryan Braun and want to see his dog get run over, but I really did enjoy seeing Braun address the team after the clincher in St. Louis. To see the team just stop celebrating to listen to what he had to say I think is definitely indicative of having the respect of his teammates, despite the past. He also seemed very genuine and clearly enjoyed endorsing Yelich for MVP joining the rest of the team in the MVP chants.

In some ways it seemed like a passing of the torch moment from him to Yelich as the leader and face of this franchise. It was a nice display of leadership from Braun and I hope Yelich can follow similarly as a leader.

To me the biggest moment of the season although not the most dramatic was Hader saving a 2-1 win against the Cards in mid-August. The Brewers had dropped 8 of 11 including the terrible series to the Padres and had lost the 1st 2 of the series to the Cards to drop to 3d place 11 over .500. That game started the 28-10 run that ended the season. The 3 run 15th was a few games later and helped a lot too.
