If that isn't blocking the runner's path without possession of the ball, I don't know what is.

I disagree. The runner and the ball were on an almost identical path, the catcher is in the oath because he is fielding the ball.

I went back and watched it. Cervelli was already straddling the line when the LF let it go.

Love the replay of the Cubs' fans in the first couple rows yelling and showing the safe sign, even though Contreras never got closer than three feet from even touching home plate.

And Williams just looks off. Got bailed out once this inning. Needs to bail himself out now. And, nope. He won't. 3-0.

Only hope now is to get into that rotten Cubs' pen. Lester's pitch count is sky high through 4, so he's maybe got another inning, but I imagine that's it.

Well, I suppose this is what happens when you depend on teams who have nothing to play for to play spoiler.

Hard to imagine we're going to pick up more than +1.0 on the Cubs this weekend. We could be headed for a tie breaker, in which case today's off day could be huge for the bullpen.

While it wouldn't surprise me for the Cards to take two, you can't depend on it. The Brewers need to sweep the Tigers out of town if they want a shot at the division.

You were right lcbj68c ... Trevor Williams isn't living up to the hype tonight.

I mean, it's not about being right, but FFS, some people were calling him Cy Williams this week.

Well, the guy has basically been deGrom in the second half. He absolutely dominated in his starts against the Brewers. Looks like a totally different guy tonight.

Yeah the announcers saying Lester had a good start are the type of people who don't really understand baseball at a macro level. This was a really mediocre outing that he got lucky that balls didn't find holes at the right time.

This also shouldn't matter. If your throw is so bad it pulls the catcher into the lane it is your teams fault and you should be penalized for it.

If one of our starters threw that exact same line we'd be jumping for joy.

You would be, I would not. Seriously ERA is about the 20th stat I go to for how someone pitched. I'd be happy with the result but I would understand the result has nothing to do with how the guy actually pitched. ERA over a 7 IP sample is completely worthless.
