Bigger 2nd half - Sabathia or Yelich?

homer
As AMAZING as Yelich has been, I'll have to go with CC. That guy was off the chain. Complete games, no hitter (screw you Pittsburgh! !), 3 days rest, no Sheets, team falling down around him. I've never witnessed a Brewere do that. My only regret was not seeing him pitch in person that season. I got a whole lot of Dave Bush though

CC still. He put his future in jeopardy to get us to a post season. I’ll never forget what he did.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

CC was amazing ... I was at a few of his starts including the one VS the Reds I think where he hit a homer even....

But the last couple weeks what Yelich has done has been edited player in video game amazing - I ageee with TooLive, it was always CC but that’s become a dead heat. If he walks off or wins us 162 or 163, hard to argue against Yelli. He’s put the team on his back. And with the Bonds treatment.

That's where WAR loses me. How can a guy playing 17 games have more impact than a guy playing 70? I guess I don't understand the math there.

Think of it by PA. A pitcher is 50% of every PA they pitch. If a guy throws 200 innings and averages say, 4 PA/inning that's 800 PA's in a season.

I do have one question, though: isn't it better to average 3PA an inning and only get 600 PA? Pitchers want to reduce opposing PA right? I really like thinking of it in these terms, but that part confuses me...

Yeah but it's all compared to a replacement level player - not compared to hypothetical perfection. We know a great ace literally gives you probably at least an 80% chance of winning any given start (even if he doesn't get the win, keeping you in the game for a late win is still a feat to his credit). That's a lot more wins than a scrap heap starter.

Also, don't overthink it - the great starters are influencing so many plate appearances precisely because they're great and you can leave them in the game, not because they're giving up too many base-runners.

I agree. Pitching every 4 days for that long was incredible. His overall stats in the playoff push were just as good as Yelich's. The team would have been completely lost without him, whereas I think they would still be competitive without Yelich.

I still got CC. You gotta remember that pitchers don't get those great 5-second highlights like a home run hitter, so you can't judge them based on memorable moments or lack thereof. It's all about preventing opponents from having highlights. If Yelich's hot streak is that impactful, then by definition CC's ability to prevent anyone from getting hot is just as impactful, and he influence more plate appearances. A lot more.
