They need to decide if they want to let Thames earn his spot back to make the 25 man playoff roster and if so give him some starts, or decide he is not going to be on the playoff roster and only use him for low leverage ph situations going forward.

Agreed. I think the next couple games will be very telling in that regard.

Aguilar was 1-10 in the Cubs series, but apart from that he hasn't been THAT bad lately.

Thames is 3-13 in September, and he almost has as many hits as he had in the entire month of August (4-44). I could see giving Thames a few starts against righties, but not sure he's a better option even against most righties than Aguilar.

Aguilar has even admitted to being tired, both physically and mentally. Playing Thames or Shaw is moreso to give Aguilar an extended break. Maybe they decide 2 games is enough, I personally think more games because of how bad his PH appearance was on Wednesday. Aguilar is still clearly our best 1b, but only when he's right.

Aguiilar has been gassed. Prolly closer to 300lbs A few days off or even a weak off would be great and get him back on HR track. He has mostly been getting hits just by lunging his body to poke balls in the OF. I havent seen one solid cut from him turning his hips since the asg.

Even in the HR derby, he got gasssd after about 8 pitches. He needs another several days off or get on a dietary regiman.

Btw, our LH bats....dont forget about grandy. Him and moose have been a big counter to the cubs. Both can hit LHP as well.

Thames and shaw bat less than .200 against lefties so until they can develop a mlb bat against major league pitching they should be shelved.

Thames loses focus. Keep him off the playoff team but start him every game in april and may. He is great on the first leg of the race.

Here's my guess. Pina and Arcia started in the last Gio start. I'd take Grandy over Braun. Schoop over Aguilar today.

Granderson RF

Yelich LF

Cain CF

Shaw 1b

Moustaks 3b

Schoop 2b

Pina C

Arcia SS

Gonzalez P

This would be my lineup as well.

I would be very surprised if Granderson started over Braun today. Granderson has looked good, but it's also been about 15 AB. Braun is the better player and he's playing pretty well right now. Eventually the line drives will fall in.

I won't be too surprised either way.

It's not just 15 AB's. Granderson's stats as a Blue Jay would translate to about an .825 OPS if Miller Park was his home field all year. Braun has looked okay lately but you can't go wrong either way. I'd probably err on the side of getting another LHB in there against Archer and keeping Braun well rested, but both of them have proven they can be very effective as pinch hitters.

All Pirates starters are RH, Granderson will get a game this weekend and it makes sense to be Sat/Sun so Braun doesn't do the day/night back to back. But he's not all of a sudden going to be our starting Of vs all righties. He's going to be a great PH and occasional starter. This is like the opposite of Schoop's bad start with all the overreactions to a small sample fast start. Having a PH come in late with his experience and patience is going to be huge though and of course if the Braun injury bug pops op you have him.

Only change i make is Thames for Jesus. We need to find out if Thames is worthy of a spot on the playoff 25

Maybe they've already made that decision. But really what we need is to win as many games as possible, that's the priority. If they think Jesus is good to go and gives the best shot right now, which is likely since Thames has frankly been very bad for two months now, then he should play.
