Not a "must win", but it would be nice to tee off on Archer and keep the momentum rolling.

I think to stand a realistic shot at the division, the Brewers need to aim for 95 wins. That means going 11-4 to end the year. If they take the rest of their series 2-1, that is a 10-5 record. A few sweeps would obviously provide a little breathing room.

I'll be honest, these 6 games make me more nervous than any other series we have left...even the Cardinals series. Flashbacks to that 5 game series where they wrecked us. Even in later series that we won games, they were always so close and played us very tough. None of these 6 games will be easy, it does help the Kuhl is done for the year and we don't have to face him.

Schoop, Shaw, and cain all have very good numbers against Archer career. Also Arcia and Pina have taken Archer deep in limited AB. Yelich has struggled career against Archer, but I doubt he sits out today. My guess on lineup is Cain, Yelich, Shaw, Braun, Schoop, Thames, Pina, Arcia. I personally would switch Cain/Yelich to stagger the lefties, but with Yelich hitting better against lefties I suppose you don't really have to do that.

Or they could just swap Shaw and Braun in the order. I kinda have a feeling Braun is about to get red hot to close out the year. He's been hitting the ball on the screws lately.

Lineup on 8/26 against Archer, also at Miller Park, was:

Cain CF

Yelich RF

Aguilar 1B

Shaw 2B

Braun LF

Moustakas 3B

Schoop SS

Pina C

Anderson P

Based on career numbers, you have to find spots in the lineup for Cain, Schoop, and Shaw. Moose had his first 2 career hits against Archer during that previous game, including a HR. With Anderson having started that game, you could afford to have Schoop at SS, but I don't think they'll want to do that with Gio on the mound.

I'd guess they'll lineup like this:

Cain CF

Yelich RF

Shaw 3B

Braun LF

Schoop 2B

Aguilar 1B

Pina C

Arcia SS

Gonzalez P

Not sure where Aguilar fits in there but I doubt they give him a 2nd straight game off (and 3rd straight day with the off day).

Somebody posted Schoop has good numbers vs Archer and i'd assume a lot of ABs. Could be a day to let Shaw play 1B and give Jesus one more day to clear his head. Guessing they'll want Arcia for D today.

I'm 100% on board with a day off for Aguilar, heck even 2 more days off and let the LH bats play more. I'd probably give Thames a start today, but can also get behind shaw at 1b.

I probably should have included Perez in my lineup somewhere. Even though it makes no sense, he'll probably find his way into the lineup.

I’m with those who say these last 6 with the Pirates are scary. They have been a thorn in our side all year. They aren’t really playing for anything at this point but I’m sure they’re not gonna just go out there and lay down for us. Hoping the bats really come alive this weekend.

Aguilar was 1-10 in the Cubs series, but apart from that he hasn't been THAT bad lately.

Thames is 3-13 in September, and he almost has as many hits as he had in the entire month of August (4-44). I could see giving Thames a few starts against righties, but not sure he's a better option even against most righties than Aguilar.

Aguilar has even admitted to being tired, both physically and mentally. Playing Thames or Shaw is moreso to give Aguilar an extended break. Maybe they decide 2 games is enough, I personally think more games because of how bad his PH appearance was on Wednesday. Aguilar is still clearly our best 1b, but only when he's right.

Schoop hasn't played SS for quite a while if my memory serves me correctly...... don't think we will see that much if at all anymore.

Jesus has 3 ks in 5 ABs vs Archer and is tired and struggling. I could see giving him another day off and playing Shaw at first.

I think Schoop is 2B only from this point on which doesn't help the trade discussion over Villar.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I don't think I've really seen anything from Schoop that would require him to be pulled from SS duties either. I know he has made his share of errors since being with us, but I don't recall anything SS specific that is worrisome. As in a weak arm or horrible range (at least not worse than they thought they were getting when they first went this route). He's just botched a few balls here or there and most have been at 2B in my memory.

The list is short for players that have faced Archer more or had greater success than Schoop and Cain. Would be shocked if either gets the day off today.

Shaw is in that conversation too from his time in Boston. All 3 of those guys should be in the lineup today.

Cain CF

Yelich RF

Shaw 1B

Braun LF

Schoop 2B

Moustakas 3B

Pina C

Arcia SS
