I'm not a big proponent of "must win" terminology. It's significantly overused. However, though this game not a must win in terms of elimination or reducing our hopes to next to impossible in terms of division; this is definitely a stage in the season that the swing from winning or losing the game will make a big difference in our chances to to win the division, so I'm fine with this series/game being called must win for that.

Cannot stand the "must win" term, but I agree with everything you said. This is the point of the season where a one game swing makes that big of a difference.

Yea I'd guess the logic is Anderson is a flyball pitcher so don't neeeeed Arcia's D as badly. Therefore you're down to Perez or Schoop to get the better bat. Schoop played yesterday and Perez didn't so here we are. Personally I'd go Schoop because that's why you got him, he's been generally good of late, and I feel like to hopefully get him on a hot streak that could pay dividends he needs consistent pt. Either way, it's nothing to get too worked up about.

I felt like the reason we got these other reinforcements was to generally avoid having to play Perez, yet he's starting more often than not. I'd rather see Saladino or Arcia than Perez. Both are better defenders. The right call is probably Saladino, but for some reason Perez gets another start.

In fairness, it annoys me less for him to play SS than any other spot. In general though, Perez should be the utility guy that can play anywhere and provide adequate defense...but you really don't want to ever play. Not the guy you find every last excuse to find a spot in the lineup for.

Aggie running on fumes

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Might not be the worst idea to bat him in the 5 hole. He just seems to be pressing since the HR's a showing up. Take some pressure of a guy that is reaching uncharted territory (games and intensity).

I believe the Brewers have an eight man bench for this game and all are right handed.

Yes it’s why I would have loved to keep Granderson on the bench for a matchup.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

It would certainly be nice to win but it’s not a must win. If we lose, we’ll be 3 behind the Cubs and 3.5 ahead of the Dodgers. If the 3 game deficit is insurmountable against the Cubs, wouldn’t that make us a lock for the playoffs?

There is enough time to catch the Cubs or be caught by the Dodgers.

4 games behind in the loss column with 15 games to go and no opportunity to make games up head to head is very unlikely.

If the Dodgers are going to catch us they will have to do it through St Louis. One of them is going to lose the next 4 games.

Which explains why we are about 95-97 % to make the playiffs going by the statistical models.
